The Morning Fix

First-round draft pick Eric Berry, a safety, and cornerback Javier Arenas will help turn on the lights at the City Lights ceremony at 6 p.m. Thursday at Barney Allis Plaza. The annual lighting event is the official kickoff of the Salvation Army’s Christmas Campaign.

“I just told him that, ‘Hey, you’re a guy I’m going to continue to come to,’” Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel recalled this week. “You’re a guy that I’ve got a lot of faith in. Just keep working hard and we’ll turn this thing around.

“It was a play that happened and as players we never want anything to happen like that, where there’s a big-play opportunity and we miss it,” Cassel added. “But it’s a part of football.”

Denver linebacker D.J. Williams, a team captain and the Broncos’ leading tackler, was arrested early Friday morning on suspicion of drunken driving.

The Denver Post is reporting that Williams could face suspension, and that’s bad news for a team that already has a depleted defense and linebackers corps.

“There’s going to be a lot of competition,” said Broncos special teams coach Mike Priefer, who coaches Britton now and previously spent three years overseeing Dustin’s development with the Chiefs. “They’re both very prideful young men and it’s going to mean a lot to them. And the cool thing is it’s going to be twice a year for the next few years to come.”
