Chiefs Rookies Step Up

Here is an interesting article from the Sporting News on the Chiefs’ rookies and Haley’s take on them:

Tony Moeaki, TE, Iowa

The pick: Third round, 93rd overall.

Making his mark: On an offense that uses the pass conservatively, Moeaki quickly has become quarterback Matt Cassel’s most trusted receiver. He leads the team with 18 receptions for 194 yards and two touchdowns.

Haley says: “What I tried to get a lot of real good players—Larry Fitzgerald, Keyshawn Johnson, Terry Glenn—to do and wasn’t able to do it, this guy just does with a real natural feel.”

This one breaks my heart, oh what could have been:

Cameron Sheffield, LB, Troy

The pick: Fifth round, 142nd overall.

Making his mark: Sheffield was expected to contribute as a special teams player and pass rusher in sub-packages until he sustained a season-ending neck injury in preseason.

Haley says: “I wish we had him. He was coming on.”
