Earning Their Arrowheads

The Kansas City Chiefs fell to the Houston Texans 35-31 Sunday but there were still a number of Chiefs who played very well.

Thus we continue our “Earning Their Arrowheads” series with 5 Chiefs players earning the right to wear the Red and Gold.

Matt Cassel

Cassel received one of my two offensive game balls and he is also getting his Arrowhead this week. The Chiefs needed Cassel to step up and he did just that Sunday. In easily his best game as a Chief, Cassel found the endzone three times, including a beautiful pass to WR Dwayne Bowe.

He finished the game 20 of 29 for 201 yards and 3 touchdowns. Not bad for a guy who only a week again looked to be the weak link on offense.

Dwayne Bowe

Also a game ball recipient, Bowe rebounded from a putrid performance in Indianapolis, catching 6 passes for 108 yards and two touchdowns.

Bowe looked like the receiver Chiefs fans were dreaming about when he was drafted. The big question is, can he stay consistent?

Thomas Jones and Jamaal Charles

These two are without a doubt the best 1-2 running back punch in the league. Sunday the two backs accounted for 193 yards on the ground.

On the year Jones and Charles combined have carried the ball 145 times for 754 yards and 3 TD’s. They are currently on pace to rush for 2412.8 yards and 9.6 touchdowns.

Branden Albert

Branden Albert is getting it done. He’s gone up against Dwight Freeney and Mario Williams in consecutive weeks and he has shut down both of them. Williams came in to the game with 5 sacks and that is how he left it.

Albert is a big part of the reason the Chiefs offensive line is playing so well. They have given up only 4 sacks all year. 1 of those sacks came because Matt Cassel fumbled the ball and had to fall on it and the other came Sunday when Cassel was scrambling around the field in desperation at the end of the game.

Albert is certainly worthy of his arrowhead.

Those are my five. Who are your players earning their arrowheads?
