Kansas City defeated San Diego on national television Monday night, capping a night of celebration as the Chiefs officially opened a revamped Arrowhead Stadium, gleaming with $375 million in renovations. Monday night was marketed as a turning point for the Chiefs, and Thum was seen in the stadium’s new press box showing off the view and its amenities to visitors.
The two rookies proved those people wrong in their first game for the Kansas City Chiefs. The dynamic punt return duo combined for an astounding 160 punt return yards in the Monday night game against the San Diego Chargers.
Kansas City had one big play on offense, a 56-yard Jamaal Charles touchdown run. Otherwise, the Chiefs’ offense got stuck in neutral. But the returns brought back memories of Donte Hall, and that’s nothing but good for Kansas City. Dexter McCluster had a 94-yard punt return for a touchdown, and Javier Arenas nearly broke another for a score before punter Mike Scifres stepped in to make the tackle.
