The Morning Fix

by The Morning Fix

Morning Addicts. Sorry I’m late, I had some things to take care of. Contrary to popular belief I do have a life outside of blogging though it is a dark, sad, lonely place. Except for Ms. AA of course.

Just a note. Today is the last day BobGretz.com will be free. If you want to continue to receive Bob’s in depth analysis, you will need to pny up $25 for premium content. I believe the price goes up after today. Bob has been a friend to us here and if you can afford it, I recommend you look in to it.

Until then, here is your Morning Fix!

It was the kind of day that Lamar Hunt would have loved, except for the part where he was the center of attention.

Friday morning at Arrowhead Stadium the Chiefs unveiled a nine-foot bronze statue of Hunt that will sit in what the team has called Founder’s Plaza on the north side of the revamped stadium.

Friday afternoon, the Chiefs kicked off their 2010 pre-season in their new home at Missouri Western State University. An afternoon thunderstorm did not deter the team or the 3,000+ fans that were on campus from enjoying the return of training camp football to the state of Missouri for the first time since 1990.

It was a day for an odd crossing of the swords within the franchise, as history and the future came together. The Chiefs that Hunt knew in his last years are gone. Long gone. While his statue will look over fans for many, many years as they enter Arrowhead, it’s interesting that his focus is pointed north, away from the stadium and looking out towards Parking Lot M and Kaufman Stadium.

An injury Haley will talk about

That’s the one to offensive coordinator Charlie Weis, who had a heavy brace on his left knee and moved around the practice field in a motorized wheelchair.

“His knee went out at the 11th hour,” Haley said. “It was as bad a timing as you could have. He toughed it out and found a way to get through.”

Weis occasionally hopped out of the chair with the aid of a cane to make a coaching point. The injury definitely didn’t prevent him from getting his work done.

“Coach Weis is going to make his presence felt if he’s lying down on his back wearing sunglasses or something,” guard Ryan Lilja said.

With training camps opening throughout the NFL, there are plenty of obvious story lines. So instead of breaking down the easy stuff like whether (or, more accurately, when) Brett Favre will return or who’ll start during Ben Roethlisberger’s suspension or whether Jay Cutler will take aim at Mike Martz, let’s take a look at some more subtle things to watch as the 2010 season approaches.

1. Can Charlie Weis and QB Matt Cassel get along?
In Kansas City, Weis has assumed the duties of offensive coordinator, allowing Todd Haley to focus on coaching the team.

Many assume the relationship between Weis and Cassel will go swimmingly, given their mutual ties to New England.
