Now that we are far removed from the draft and free agency some of the optimism in Chiefs Nation seems to be dying down. All around the Chiefs Blogosphere folks are turning their attention to some of the team’s deficiencies.
We all remember the hope with which we went in to the 2009 season. The Chiefs had a new coaching staff, GM and philosophy. We learned fast that while it is sometimes possible, big changes don’t happen over night.
One area of the team that seems to be giving Chiefs fans the most trouble is the run defense. It was terrible last year and since Scott Pioli made almost no changes to the team’s front 7, it stands to reason it will stink this year.
Though the Chiefs did not do a lot this offseason to bolster the front 7, they have invested top 5 draft picks in Glenn Dorsey and Tyson Jackson. Pioli and Haley are putting their money on these two young players. If both Jackson and Dorsey can take their game to the next level, the Chiefs run defense will be greatly improved. If they can’t, the team will have to make some changes moving forward.
And now it is time for our Saturday poll.
