Arrowhead Pride: “Lions Expressed Interest In Page”

facebooktwitterreddit

This doesn’t come as a surprise but Arrowhead Pride is reporting that the Detroit Lions have expressed interest in Chiefs safety Jarrad Page.

According to AP’s source, the Lions just wanted to gauge the Chiefs interest in trading Page. The Chiefs apparently didn’t bite.

It is no shock the Lions came sniffing around. Former Chiefs defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham is now the defensive coordinator in Detroit and hasn’t been shy about his intentions to snatch up any of his old players should the Chiefs let them go. Since it is apparent the Chiefs have no intention of releasing Page outright, the Lions wanted to see if they could get a bargain through a trade.

There is no real reason for the Chiefs to move Page unless they are offered something unbelievable in return. Their best bet is to hold on to Page and call his bluff. If he caves and comes back, the Chiefs will have more depth at safety. If he doesn’t, they won’t run the risk of trading him for a low pick only to watch him go flourish with another team.

The Chiefs will still hold Page’s rights next offseason and they can try to trade him then, a little closer to the draft.

KC holds all the leverage here. There is always a chance that some team will see a safety go down to injury and in desperation, will overpay for Page. There is no reason for KC to give him up for peanuts.

I will say it again. Page should sign his contract and get his butt to camp.
