Besides being a self proclaimed KC CHIEFS tailgating expert, I proclaim myself to be a BBQ expert as well. When I travel, I make it a point to track down the local BBQ joints, to see whats what.

We do our own BBQ, real tailgating doesn't include picking up pre-made food at LC's or Arthur Bryant's. You need to cook that Q yourself! As far as sauce, LC's, Night of the Living and Willingham's are my favorites.
Minor point perhaps but if you haven't tried the beans at LC's, you're missing what I feel might be the best BBQ side in town. You should also get at least one order of their sausage - if can't eat it there, then take it with you . . . damn good eats. Along with the fish, check out the vintage photo of Aerosmith on the wall, personally signed by Steven Tyler marking their visit to and enjoyment of the establisment.
JH I'm staying at the Hampton INN at the Plaza for the Monday night game, because my girlfriend is going. Its a great place to walk down to the Country Club Plaza and an easy drive from the stadium. If Im staying with a bud, I stay at the Drury Inn which is within walking distance of the stadium but its on the low end rating wise.
I love Gates & Bryants overall. I haven't been to Oklahoma Joe's but my friends say it top. I don't like the hoity-toity atmosphere at the Plaza location, but Jack Stack has some nice tasting bbq. Great creamed corn side dish.
"Hoity toity?" Okay then. The Plaza is and will always be the heart of Kansas City and a can't miss place for having a good time unless of course what you're looking for is the Nascar / Side Pockets "atmosphere."
Hey Randy! I am planning on going out to Arrowhead this year. What is the best hotel to stay at that is close to the stadium and downtown?
If you want to go out at night you may want to stay near the Plaza. That's the area around 47th and Wornall Rd. Depending on price there's the Holiday Inn, Homestead, Courtyard, Residence Inn, Broadway Suites, Southmoreland, Raphael, and Intercontinental all within 4 blocks.
Jeremy, There's also a pretty nice Marriott within the same walking distance across the street from American Century. If you need to know anything about the Plaza and what's around it, ask me - I grew up within blocks of it and spend a lot time there still - I'm very familiar with it.
If cost is not a huge concern, then in my experience, I'd say the best hotel on the Plaza that also happens to have the best view of it is the Intercontinental - just make sure you get a room with a balcony that faces North. Added bonus, it's a short stumble from any bar there.
Ya I just found out that Daniels place now just sells the sauce online and goes to BBQ contest. The ultimate destroyer is amazing. My friend is actually a cook there. I dont know how familiar you are with Kansas but Its in Bonner Springs. Its a small little white barn looking place. The food is amazing though and if you think you can take down the Ultimate destroyer its free.
Being from Kansas City and living here my whole life I have tried pretty much every BBQ there is. I have a couple sleepers for you guys to try out. I will post the links.
