My Chief Concerns: The New Draft Schedule

by Chiefs

Happy Draft Day Gentlemen (and women too)!  I just wanted to get your thoughts about the draft’s new schedule.  Do you think having the draft over three days helps or hurts the Chiefs?  Generally speaking, the Chiefs are usually very well prepared for the draft.  They have gone over every scenario and every possibility, so when the unexpected happens they can recoup faster or better than other teams.

Some teams are not as well prepared for the draft and the seemingly endless surprises and possibilities. Having an extra day after the first round to regroup and re-evaluate their board, listen to and propose trades will help front offices that are not as savvy or prepared.  Is the new schedule hurting the better prepared teams?  What do you think?  Does the new draft day schedule help or hurt the Chiefs?

I think having picks early in the 2nd and 4th rounds make it more likely we will get good offers to trade up for those picks because other teams will can be pretty sure that they can get a player they really want with one of those picks. In fact I think our best trade options might be our first pick in the second round.

Some good is likely to slide out of the first round. Suppose Clausen or Tebow slip into that positions because Seattle, Cleveland, Oakland and Buffalo pass on a QB in round 1. 4 of the next 5 picks could still be looking for a QB and we might be able to get some really good offers from somebody like the Patriots to move up and get one of those guys. Because of the extra time between round 1 and 2 we might be able to set up a pretty good auction the night before the second round.

Watching the draft is always a great excuse to tune out the world and dream big for KC. I was so excited when the Chiefs drafted Dorsey that I was jumping up and down and yelling YESSSSS, and I was completely surprised yet hopeful when we added TJ. This season I hope to God that those draft choices pan out. The new draft forma is going to make the Draft seem more like a soap opers. How much you wanna bet that this draft has the most trades in the history of the NFL? I bet actual current players get delt this weekend as well. As for KC, I'd go Berry or Bryant in the first round, then pick up an OL or TE in the late rounds. We also might want to pick up a versatile KR type of guy similar to Dante Hall. Our D needs help in the secondary....Jarred Page and Bernard Pollard were both sick, what happened? I just hope this draft is a success.

It should definitely help largely due to the fact that they have a high-pick in round two giving teams a night to think about trading up to grab that player they didn't expect to fall to the second round.

I agree, but do we want to trade our high second round pick? There is going to be some great talent available there.

If it's in exchange for a first round pick next year and something else, absolutely.

Im just pumped that were on Monday Night Football Week 1 baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Chiefs on prime time finally!

That is awesome 567! Can't wait. The House will be rocking
