Dedric Ward is back in the University of Northern Iowa football camp.
The former Panther all-American receiver, who went on to a professional career as a player and coach in the National Football League, is coaching UNI’s receivers this spring.
Ward was coaching for the Kansas City Chiefs last season, but his contract wasn’t renewed.
Meanwhile, UNI has tweaked its schedule for spring drills, stretching the 15 workouts over five weeks instead of the usual four.
“We’ve extended it for a lot of reasons, but primarily it gives us an opportunity to meet more during the week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday,” head coach Mark Farley said during UNI’s Monday coaches’ luncheon. “We are shorthanded on coaches and yet we’ve got some things to get done.
