We’ve got our daily dose of Chiefs news for those of you who haven’t torn up your NCAA bracket and thrown yourselves out a window. Don’t worry, though. Balance always returns to the force and anyone who was foolish enough to get so cute that they picked Ohio to beat Georgetown will do themselves in during the later rounds when the cream rises to the top.
I hope.
Until then, here is your Morning Fix!
Kansas City Chiefs
Nothing flashy in free agency, but added experience and depth to try to stabilize the interior of the line, and Thomas Jones very likely will be the best running back in free agency in 2009.
The Chiefs still lack playmakers, and this will be a process, but above all that, adding coordinators Charlie Weis and Romeo Crennel is no small thing. This coaching staff has been upgraded from last season’s version, and with Weis there quarterback Matt Cassel should have a proven infrastructure in place and every chance to succeed. Weis’ presence gives coach Todd Haley another strong offensive mind to cull.
In the AFC West, with a little better protection, a little better quarterback play, and, who knows, maybe they can finish second to the Chargers.
Best offseason moves were not the biggest headlines-NFL.com
“I didn’t know anything about him,” Robinson said then. “At least not until he got on the field and you saw him on tape. It didn’t take long to learn about him then.”
During the two days of the 2000 NFL Draft I was allowed to sit in the Chiefs war room and watch the action. Gunther Cunningham was the most vocal and powerful person in the room, and before the day even started he confided that there was a wildcard in play. There was a twinkle in his eye.
That was Wesley. After taking WR Sylvester Morris and CB William Bartee in the first two rounds, the Chiefs began preparing for their third-round choice, the 85th player that would be selected in the draft. A lot of names were on the draft board. A group of five names was always set aside by the decision makers – essentially Cunningham and Carl Peterson – and as the picks came off the board, the Chiefs discussion would eventually whittle that group of five down to a single name.

Still, Croyle has outdone Whitehurst, who hasn’t been good enough to get out on the field and throw so much as a regular-season pass. The Chargers thought so little of Whitehurst that they traded for Billy Volek to be the main reserve for Philip Rivers.
But for Whitehurst the Seahawks still gave the Chargers a future third-round pick and swapped second-rounders with San Diego this year, a move advantageous to the Chargers.
So shouldn’t there be some kind of market for Croyle? He’s kind of small and scrawny and doesn’t look the part of an NFL quarterback like the bigger Whitehurst does. But I can tell you from years of watching Croyle on the practice fields at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls that he can make all of the throws an NFL quarterback needs to make.

Man, I’m so glad that article mentioned that 2000 Draft class. Peterson really struck out on that one. Of course, he couldn’t help that Morris got hurt, but still. Morris and Bartee as our top two picks in a draft? Sounds like a big whiff to me. Gotta love good ole King Carl. Nothing like some early morning fond memories of our old GM to start the day off right!
GO CHIEFS!
I can’t wait for the Draft! I feel like we have made more positive moves so far this offseason than we have in years and years. I really feel we have a shot at the West already. I think the Bolts are a punch of choke artist. The Chiefs will surprise some people. Thanks for the Joe Montana photos too, brought back some amazing memories.
Chiefs. Enough said.
Never a bad time for a Joe Montana picture.
How about winning the AFC WEST this year, a few more add ons and we could be a contender.the chargers are going down twice to us,go chiefs;;;;;;;;;
