Chiefs To Meet With Ryan Lilja Monday

NFL Divisional Playoffs - Baltimore Ravens v Indianapolis Colts

Arrowhead Pride has it from 810 Sports and Jason Lacanfora of NFL.com that the Chiefs will meet with former Colts guard Ran Lilja on Monday. From Arrowhead Pride:

Had enough offensive line news today? I hope not.

According to Jason La Canfora of NFL Network, the Kansas City Chiefs have a visit scheduled with free agent guard Ryan Lilja, who was cut from the Indianapolis Colts this week.

Per La Canfora, the visit is scheduled for Monday.

Lija has been a very popular free agent among Chiefs fans since the Colts let him go. Lilja apparently failed his physical with the Colts but the team is also reportedly trying to go with a bigger offensive line. Lilja is only 28 and has 5 ears of starting experience. It should also be noted how much the Colts throw the ball. This means Lilja has a lot of experience in pass blocking situations and while Manning helps his lineman out by always making solid, quick decisions and getting rid of the football, he can’t be given all the credit. Mannining is rarely sacked and some of that is due to solid pass blocking. There is no way the Chiefs should let Lilja leave Kansas City on Monday without a contract in place. This is one free agent move where the Chiefs will be getting a starter, meaning G is one less position they have to worry about come April.

What do you think Addicts? How does an offensive line of Alber, Waters, Wiegmann, Lilja and O’Callahan look to you?

If Berry and Okung are still alive at #5 the Chiefs had better take Okung if they took Berry over Okung I will VOMIT!!!!!!! The Chiefs need to put all of their focus on their needs yeah Berry probably is a good safety but safety isn't a huge need that the Chiefs need right now they need a LT, like I said before Draft a LT put Lilja at RG, Wiegmann at C Draft one of the 2 LT's Okung or Bulaga, move B.Waters from LG to RG and RT McIntosh, It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this out, if you don't understand this you are a DDD!!!!

i think we should take berry in first round .tate in the second round and in the 3 round TE from maimi

how about this....sign lilja...then our o line is taken care of pick up eric berry or saftey from texas then that takes care of our saftey problem...then if and i prey that Aaron Hernandez TE fron florida is still available early 2nd rd if so pick him up with one of our 2nd rd picks that would be our future tony gonzalez...then after that who knows but thats what we need to do to fill the holes that left the chiefs or got traded...if that is done we are real solid contenders..i wouldn't say Super Bowl but in 2 yrs i wouldn't hesitate sayin it...GO CHIEFS

didnt we have lilja a few years ago wat makes u think he wants to come here after playin for indy that would be dumb on his part

WOW Scotty may live up to the hype yet! I believe they are serious. Lilja has a ring, so bring him home where he belongs. O'Kung is there at 5 he has to be the pick. Good DB's and LB's later in the draft. Blair White from MSU would be a gem if he is available to us.

MoCan:

I like Albert. My point is that he gives us a lot of flexibilty.

How do you guys like this.....
i think that if we get Lilja we would not have to worry about a OT until the 3rd round.. My worst case senerio in the draft would be if someone picks Eric berry before he gets to us... what i would do is trade our fifth overall pick for someone in the 10-15 range and then pick up Joe Haden(he can play saftey as well as corner)another OT, rolando miclain LB, dezmont byrant Wr, or Talyor May SS, and then also get a possible 3rd or 4th pick for trading the pick...
how do you like that? we still get a draft need and plus get another pick

I sure would like to see a speedy playmaker as our first pick, improving team speed is a priority, but usually you can't go wrong with a LT. Whether the brain trust at Arrowhead wants to move Albert or not is unknown. There are some indications that they are willing to move Albert, as seen in a Haley interview and Pioli's past history of drafting lineman. Best case scenario is trading out of the 5 pick, unlikely, but it happened last year. In this uncapped year it might easily happen. An uncertain QB situation in Pittsburgh, new coaches looking for a QB and a couple of highly touted talents may let us trade out. There is a mock draft by Matt Maguire at Walter Football.com that has a scenario that I like. Anyway this is a blast, trying to figure out what's going to happen and I enjoy the differing comments on a Chiefs future no one knows.

Merlin, if Berry, and Okung (or your top rated OT) are both there at #5, who do you take?

Lilga would be a great pick up and would completely give us the depth and experience we need. I would still be up for taking a LT in the draft and here's why. The LT is, I believe, the 2nd most important position on a team. Albert is solid and I believe he will live up to expectations, especially with the help of our great new coaching staff. But, say Albert goes down to injury (God Forbid), but WHAT IF? What's wrong with having a little insurance. Had we had a decent back up in 2005 when Willie Roaf went down for a few games, we may have won the extra game needed to get into the playoffs which we missed that year with 10 wins! Instead, Pittsburgh, the 6th seed, gets hot and you know the rest. I always think back that if we had gotten in we could have made some noise that year in the playoffs, LJ was a beast, our offense was still a top 3 at least if I recall. But we lost close games to Dallas and the Giants late in the year and that was what kept us out. But I digress. By taking Lilga, putting him in at RG, our OL has a new identity almost over night. I Love It! I still would like to see us take a high value pick LT, if available, with either one of our 2nd Rd picks, maybe Ducasse, that kid's a beast. Our running game is gonna be sick next year, which means we can close out those close games in the 4th quarter. It also means Cassell and our passing game will become more of a threat. Pioli is the man with the plan. I already think with what we have gotten done in FA and with our coaching staff, that is worth at least 3 wins alone. Plus who knows what the draft will bring us, we have a lot of flexibility to go after who we want, and our position of needs are all positions of strength in this draft class. DJ, and Cory Mays are gonna break out under Crennel's Defense. And lets not forget about Vrabel's protege Studebaker. Man I'm fired up. Is it September yet? GO CHIEFS!, Just GO Baby!

That is true, merlin. But I do hope you are wrong. I understand that Albert was not the Pro Bowl tackle we thought he was gonna be last year. He gave up way too many sacks and was penalized way too much. But, I'm still not ready to give up on him just yet. He's only 25 and only 2 years pro. His first year, he was relearning the tackle position after playing guard in college. His second year, he had to learn to play at a new and smaller weight at the request (demand??) of his coach. He showed last offseason that he is willing to work extra hard to become a better player, and I think that drive will cause him to work on any flaws that were found. I hope Pioli sees the same and gives Albert one more year to prove he can be a good/great LT in this league. Just like some of us are calling for them to not give up on Bowe, I think the same should be said for Albert, especially given his two less years of experience and talent that everyone agrees he has.

GO CHIEFS!!

Even if we get Lilja, we could draft a LT and move Albert to guard.

RIGHT ON MOCAN. Im excited too!

This free agency period has me leaning to the fact that Pioli & Co aren't planning to take a OT with the first pick. We know that they liked O'Callaghan last year at the RT position, and they aren't just gonna give up on Albert, so the only other option would have been to move him to guard. But if we sign Lilja, we'd have two very good guards and nowhere to move Albert. I love this! It opens the door for many possibilities at the #5 pick, but hopefully they go with the most obvious, and my favorite one, Mr. Eric Berry! Pioli has impressed me so far this offseason. It has me excited for football season already, and its still 5 months away!

I'm just hoping Lilja won't leave town without a contract. No reason to let him visit with other teams, let's get it done!
