I. Like. This. Move.

Come home, Casey.

Jake Gutierrez of 810 Sports has Tweeted the following:

The Chiefs contacted OL Casey Wiegmann this morning.

Let me run through all the reasons I like this move. Casey is a bad ass and made the Pro Bowl 2 years ago. he has started 127 games in a row, which is the longest active streak among active centers.

My concern is that he will be 37 in July. If the Chiefs are going to bring in Casey they need to have a backup plan and they have to put a younger, talented guard to his right to help take some of the pressure off of him. If they can do that and Casey thinks he has one more year in him I think the Chiefs should look at making the move. He will likely come cheap and could mentor a young center.

The last plus here is that Casey has played with Brian Waters and it likely wouldn’t take long for some of that old chemistry to come back.

I am not saying I want the Chiefs to plug all of their holes with old veterans but I also realize that they can’t plug all of their holes with young, talented rookies and expect to win very many games. The Chiefs need a mix of young talent and veteran leadership. I would love for Casey Wiegmann to come home.

We are making sound ripples in free agency and with Lilja comming for a visit on Monday we would have better backups than our starters last year..But has any one heard anything about Andra Davis comming here for a visit, it might be another bigger ripple!

Welcome back to Casey, should be a great addition. Hopefully he can start and contribute for a year, and teach some of the younger guys how to play on the O-Line. And now we are bringing in Lilja! Could be another great addition. As for him failing a physical, I'm pretty sure Pioli is smart enough not to sign him if he isn't physically ready. But if he is, or can be by ota's, let's get him in! A line of Albert, Waters, Wiegmann, Lilja, and O'Callaghan looks pretty solid.

For those of us that were worried about our free agent movement after the first couple of days, I think Pioli has taken those worries away. He has been aggressive and made some good and not too expensive signings, can't wait for Monday, and the Draft

GO CHIEFS!!!

Being a Hawkeye and a Chief's fan this is the best of both worlds. I think Casey's a nice addition .. a stop-gap but he'll play his butt off and will do his job! I think he's great on pass protection etc. it's short yardage and goal line situations where he's starting to fall off. One thing the guy is great at is pulling to either side and running sweeps. He's fast and hits with power. Something the 2 J's are gonna like.

COME ON DRAFT DAY!!!

Im pumped For next year!!!! Come on berry!!!!!!!

THE CHIEFS ARE MAKING SOME SERIOUSLY FREAKING COOL MOVES IN FREE AGENCY

I love Casey. Its not a no brainer though, the Chiefs sent him to a team he probably hated at the time in his prime, they didnt believe in him. Bringing him back is very very right.

two words: zone blocking

I think this would be a great move for the Chiefs. Would he rather retire as a Chief or a Bronco? That's a no brainer. He enjoyed his previous times with KC. Casey is a bonafide ironman. In his streak he has 9,078 consecutive snaps at center, not to mention consecutive games played. You don't have to worry about him. And yes he would be great mentor for that o-line. He has that history with Brian Waters. And getting Ryan Lilja back, wow. I also think Casey calling o-line signals will help Matt Cassel!!C'mon Chiefs!!!!

Mike were you referring to McIntosh? I'm pretty sure he's with the Seahawks now. We cut him last year.

Oooops sorry - yes signed by the Chiefs to a 1 year contract.

Signed? By who? Us or another team. I am not sure I want Lilja if he is having health issues. Might as well keep Rudy poo and Sacintosh if injuries are an issue for Lilja or Casey.

i love this move. we desperately need more veterans on this team. and we desperatly need a center as well

Reports are now in that Casey has been signed and Lilja is scheduled for a visit on Monday.

Yeah that is a tough one. It would depend on what team he has won the most with. I would recon Denver, but they obviously don't want him back.

I wonder if he would prefer to retire a Chief or a Bronco?

At the very least they should sign him so he can retire a Chief

I imagine its similar to Nick Nolte's character in North Dallas Forty when he gets up in the morning.

Yeah I like this move too. I got sick of watching him kick ass for Denver after we shipped him off. He is a great guy, a force to be dealt with, or was. I see maybe one or two more years but what a locker room presence.
