Should The Chiefs Look At Gerard Warren?

Kansas City Chiefs v Oakland Raiders

I know, I know. If he isn’t good enough for the Raiders…

Still, Warren is a big, experienced NT. He did not have a spectacular season in 09′ but then again, the Chiefs didn’t even have an actual NT in 09′. From Pro Football Talk:

The Oakland Raiders have released defensive tackle Gerard Warren, making the nine-year veteran an unrestricted free agent.

Warren, who had a roster bonus due on March 16, was widely expected to be released, and Michael Lombardi of NFL Network and NFP reported on Twitter that it became official today.

Although Warren has started all 32 games in the last two seasons for the Raiders and still occasionally shows flashes of the athleticism that made him the third overall pick in the 2001 NFL draft, he’s 31 years old and not likely to get any big-money offers in free agency.

Warren had a career-low two sacks in 2009.

I know it doesn’t look good. A big lineman with declining numbers who is over 30. However, Warren wouldn’t be the first player to coast by while playing for the Raiders. Randy Moss, while still playing pretty well, did not exactly blow up in Oakland.

Warren may be done but he may also have something left in the tank. The Chiefs aren’t going to be able to plug all of their holes this offseason. Perhaps Warren and Smith can serve as a NT platoon that can improve the situation enough to get the Chiefs by for a year. This would give KC a chance to address other needs in the draft.

I am not saying Warren is the answer but I think he is certainly worth a hard look. Especially if he comes at a reduced price.

what do you think, Addicts? Should the Chiefs look at Gerard Warren?

Listen you all know as well as I do, being a Raider drains the life out of a player. Before long its like being in prison, counting the days down till your release day. In Warren's case he got paroled. Lucky him. I say we take a chance on him, 2 year contract. Then draft a NT late to add into the rotation.

sometimes a fresh start with a different team is a magic potion. maybe the Chiefs Romeo is the magic the former #3 overall pick needs.

Shoot, the more competition at NT, the better.

if we cant get cody in the draft then we should try and take this guy! but i rele like cody! he has rele cut down his weight. at his pro day he weighed 348 wen he was like 370 before.

I Like him i mean our d line as a whole Had 1 sack all year And This past year his career low of 2 shit ill take it haha.

If it is for a one year contract which will allow us to cut him if he can't mke the team without any cap ramifications then yes.

definitely tommy... We need to address OL LB SS WR and TE. Not necessarily in that order though. All we need at NT is a guy who can create a pile and clog holes!

My thoughts are if the line was that horrible with the addition of Seymore (who might be the best D-Lineman in the league) then the supporting cast must be simply pathetic.

I really like your NT by committee statement. With the two switching off, resting a play or two and going again, they might be better than Chief's '09 NT play and once again as you said, free up our draft for other interests.

I say for sure! Like you said we didn't even have a true NT last season! And 2 sacks is 2 more than any NT on our team had last year! Plus sacks are hard to come by for defensive linemen in a 3-4 especially a NT!
