Should The Chiefs Look At Gerard Warren?

I know, I know. If he isn’t good enough for the Raiders…

Still, Warren is a big, experienced NT. He did not have a spectacular season in 09′ but then again, the Chiefs didn’t even have an actual NT in 09′. From Pro Football Talk:

"The Oakland Raiders have released defensive tackle Gerard Warren, making the nine-year veteran an unrestricted free agent.Warren, who had a roster bonus due on March 16, was widely expected to be released, and Michael Lombardi of NFL Network and NFP reported on Twitter that it became official today.Although Warren has started all 32 games in the last two seasons for the Raiders and still occasionally shows flashes of the athleticism that made him the third overall pick in the 2001 NFL draft, he’s 31 years old and not likely to get any big-money offers in free agency.Warren had a career-low two sacks in 2009."

I know it doesn’t look good. A big lineman with declining numbers who is over 30. However, Warren wouldn’t be the first player to coast by while playing for the Raiders. Randy Moss, while still playing pretty well, did not exactly blow up in Oakland.

Warren may be done but he may also have something left in the tank. The Chiefs aren’t going to be able to plug all of their holes this offseason. Perhaps Warren and Smith can serve as a NT platoon that can improve the situation enough to get the Chiefs by for a year. This would give KC a chance to address other needs in the draft.

I am not saying Warren is the answer but I think he is certainly worth a hard look. Especially if he comes at a reduced price.

what do you think, Addicts? Should the Chiefs look at Gerard Warren?
