Should The Chiefs Offer Croyle To Cleveland?

Denver Broncos v Kansas City Chiefs

Thingshaven't always been easy for Croyle but he has never complained. Maybe he can get a fresh start somewhere else...and get the Chiefs a draft pick. Source: yardbarker.com

I know the importance of a good back up and I think Croyle is at least a solid backup and a good team player. I have always had concerns about his durability as well as his decision-making but I will fully admit that he has never had enough time on the field for anyone to decide one way or the other if he could be successful in the NFL. Croyle was given every chance to be the guy but the Chiefs but a combination of bad luck and a small frame stole that opportunity away from him.

Now that Matt Cassel is in town it is pretty much a given that bearing any unforeseen injuries to their starter, Croyle will never be anything other than a backup in KC.

I have been wondering lately if the Chiefs shouldn’t put Croyle on the trading block and see what they can get for him. The Browns are out there actively looking for a QB. They have just traded for Senneca Wallace and are entertaining Jake Delhome this week.

Croyle was a 3rd round draft pick and might be able to fetch some value for the Chiefs if there is a team out there that likes him. Obviously the Chiefs need to decide if the draft pick they could get for Croyle would be worth more than having him as a backup. Still, with a lot of QB needy teams and not a lot of options in the draft, you have to admit that a QB with Croyle’s arm could be attractive to a team like Cleveland.

What do you thin, Addicts? The Browns have a ton of draft picks this year. Might they spend one of them on Croyle?

I think he gets traded, along with Bowe, to the Bills for a third this year and next year. Since we don’t have a Mike Singletary chumping Bowe to get his head right, if that’s possible, Gailey gets 2 guys who know his system and we get better by bringing in players who fit Haley’s system and do not drop passes.

  2. I say we keep Croyle. I think he is good, he has just had injury problems and poor o-line play. He is a good solid back up.

  3. T-Train61 says:

The only reason I say keep him is because Gutierrez is the next option…dont think they really want to be in that kind of situation. Unless its something ludicrous where we clearly win (a second) I say keep him

  4. Chad says:

Bowe for a 3rd. Right. I don’t think it would hurt to shop Croyle, as he has shown dexterity and seemed to handle Cassel taking his/Thiggy’s job as a true professional. I think if they can grab a 5th this makes a lot of sense. If not, unless he is not Weis’s type of guy, he has much more value as a backup assuming the issues with the OL are fixed in the draft/free agency.

  5. Spillman69 says:

Why would anyone trade for Croyle? What exactly has he proved as a Quarterback in the NFL? Has he ever actually played 3 games in a row? I would trade him for a 3rd in a heartbeat and never look back.

  6. cameron says:

are you kidding me spillman? How many 2nd string quarterbacks so you know that can step into the first game of the season against a playoff contender like the ravens with that kind of defense, ubder a brand new coach with a brand new system (actually 2 brand new systems since haley had just taken over as O coordinator) and still almost pull of the win? And with horrible O line play not to mention. I’m not saying croyles the bomb but he’s obviously an amazing back up to step into that kind of situation and almost win!

  7. Ralph says:

    Yeah Spillman!!!!! haha

  8. Randy5k-Arrowhead Adventurer says:

Croyle is injury prone. He was injury prone at Alabama, injury prone since he arrived in KC and will be injury prone no matter where he plays. That being said, he could be very good behind a good O-line. I lean toward keeping Brody on board as we improve our ability to protect our snap taker. He has a young, rocket arm.

  9. Spillman69 says:

If your ass is made of glass then what good is a rocket for an arm?

  10. cameron says:

hmm let’s see… Quarterback for alabama.. 3rd round draft pick.. I bet he’s tougher than you think. But hey if you are tougher maybe you should give todd haley a call and set up a try out date! I’m sure they’d love to have you and your non glass caboose

  11. Jordan P. says:

No one would give up a 3 for Croyle, and it would not be good to give him up for anything less. When he plays he is pretty decent, and will only get better. Pioli is smart and a buy low sell high type of guy, so I don’t think this will happen. Bowe for a 3 is also crazy talk. The guy has abilities that can’t be taught and if he gets serious and puts some hard time into leaning how to focus and limit the drops, he will be a hell of a receiver.

  12. dubldug says:

You gotta be kidding, why give Dropsy Bowe any more chances, 3 years is enough to know he is a BUST. That is why I said TWO 3’s for both him and Croyle.

  13. Double D says:

First off, I guarantee you that if Cassel goes down, Croyle is soon to follow which leaves us with ??? Gutierrez? No thanks.

Secondly, Matt Cassel is anything but proven. We need to think about all the what ifs on this and who we would have to come in if Cassel does not progress or gets worse.

I’d definitely trade him and then draft somebody more durable, with upside, as his replacement. For me, Guys like John Skelton and Tony Pike fit the mold. There should actually be quite a few decent backup QBs available in the 3rd to 5th rounds.

If the right opportunity presents itself, this is really a no brainer if I were manning the control board. Only problem is, I think Pioli and Haley, just like Herm, for some reason have fallen in love with the guy.

  14. CHIEFSFANATIC says:

Could it be that Bowe drops the ball,so he can get out of kansas city.He has found out that Haley wont take his crap. just a wild theory,Personally i like Bowe he is a beast on the field.

  15. 102win says:

I have always thought Bowe is overrated, I would send him off for a second to Jville, if they would do it, then draft LaFell or Benn with that pick

  16. Spillman69 says:

I never said I was tougher than anyone. But I also dont play quarterback for an NFL franchise.
Look, Im sure Croyle is a very nice guy. I just dont see him as a NFL quarterback. It doesnt matter how talented you are if you cant stay on the field.
If someone is willing to give a draft pick for him we need to take it.

  17. Spillman69 says:

Bowe a bust? Thats a little harsh isn’t it Dub? Last year wasnt good by anyones standards, but his first two years showed potential. If he gets with the program and has a good off season the regular season will take care of itself.

With that being said if the people in the know think he is off the reservation then I would take a second for him in a heartbeat.

  18. Spillman69 says:

I would do Croyle and a late pick for Brady Quinn if Cleveland is willing.

  19. dubldug says:

Check Bowe’s numbers, he is worse every year he plays. I don’t know why, drugs, women, resentment about the coach but all he is good for now is trade bait or as a decoy on offense. He definetly has proven that he is unreliable in the Chiefs uniform and you can’t win with guys who drop the ball. Just ask Indy, their WR makes a drop in the first quarter, they punt and momentum shifts and end up losing the SUPERBOWL. We cannot win with those type of talented, non productive players. This is the NFL and it is a performance league.

  20. J B Hart says:

Trade? and get what? How many games has Croyle won? How many has he finished?Get a fifth rounder for him would be about all>off the subject, anyone know anything about Case Coffman? Made some great catches in College, was with Cincy, look good in red and gold to me.
