It looks as though those of you hoping the Chiefs will fill their NT needs by trading for Shaun Rogers may be out of luck. Or are you?

From Pro football Talk:

Two days after the same paper reported Browns defensive tackle Shaun Rogers was available to trade, the Cleveland Plain-Dealer reports the Browns “plan to keep him.”

So what’s going on here?

We suspect the team doesn’t want to further rock the boat with Rogers, a player that has had it’s share of conflict with the organization. The latest report doesn’t exactly rule a deal.

“The Browns plan to keep Shaun Rogers because of his tremendous ability,” a league source told Mary Kay Cabot. But the notion is qualified by: “Unless someone makes the Browns an offer they can’t refuse, Rogers will be a Brown in 2010.”

An offer they can’t refuse, eh? Who do we know that can make an offer they can’t refuse? Could it be Don Pioli? The Chiefs have a very high 3rd round pick and we already know that they are willing to give it up for the right players as they offered it up in an attempt to trade for Anquan Boldin.

If the Chiefs were willing to give up their 3rd rounder for a 29 year old receiver will they do it for a soon to be 31 year old nose tackle? Will the Browns take a 3rd rounder for Rogers?

I think this is a deal the Chiefs have to look in to making. Rogers would be a major upgrade over Ron Edwards and he has already played for defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel.

There is no guarantee that the Chiefs will find a player who can start immediately with their 3rd round pick…unless that pick is Shaun Rogers.

Sound off, Addicts! Should the Chiefs trade for Rogers? What is he worth?

Why would cleveland want to do that? we need all the help we can get and who would we get to replace him in the 3rd round? No not even us in dog bone ville are that stupid..

If we were not the Chiefs, I'd say no thanks. But we have so many needs that may or may not be met by the draft. I'd maybe be okay if they made the trade for the 3rd, drafted a NT project in a later round, and used Rogers for a couple of years while the groom the new franchise NT. Bigger question is whether Rogers and Haley could mesh...maybe Crennel is a suitable buffer between the two?
