Per Adam Schefter on Twitter:
Adam_Schefter Filed to ESPN: KC re-signed WR Chris Chambers to a three-year deal worth up to $15 million that includes $5.9 million in gtd money.
I knew this was coming but it still feels good. I hope this opens the eyes of you folks who have been complaining that the Chiefs are being cheap. I said earlier today that I thought Chambers would be re-signed and that he would not come cheap. As you can see above the deal is for $15 million with $5.9 guaranteed. Depending on how the contract is structured that shakes out to about 5 million a year. Certainly not pocket change.
From Pro Football Talk:
From the waiver wire to a sought-after free agent, Chris Chambers re-built his career in the span of nine games last season in Kansas City. The Chiefs made it a priority to keep him, handing Chambers a three-year deal worth up to $15 million, including $5.9 million in guaranteed money, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Chambers led the Chiefs with 608 receiving yards last season despite playing only 11 games with the team. His return allows for some stability for the team’s dreadful passing game. We also think it gives the team greater flexibility should they ever decide they’ve had enough of Dwayn Bowe.
What do you think, Addicts? Chris Chambers will likely be a Chiefs through 2012.

Seems like a reasonable deal. Now that the initial FA weekend is over I really hope we start to see some wheeling and dealing coming out of Arrowhead. I can be patient but some fireworks never hurt
I am pleased. We need at least one more guy to go with Bowe and Chambers but I like to see that we aren’t letting talent walk.
I wonder bout T.O…….yes T.O. now pioli got. A certain troubled player for a 4th round pick in NE. I think his name Is moss or Something like that and i Think hes played decent. T.O. Is in the position that not alot of teams want him not To mention ticket sales???? If haley can make it work its a good move cuz hes Still a threat and….he can catch!!!
Too much of a risk for him to pull a Cowboys…plus I have a sneaking feeling last year was his last breath of effectiveness
No way to TO. He is way too old and couldn’t perform being the only legitimate threat for the Bills last year. (no offense Lee Evans).
Plus he is a head case. Not worth it.
Are you kidding? I think Todd Haley hates TO. He fought with him when he was the WR coach in Dallas and Jerry Jones punished Haley for arguing with his golden boy ticket seller. You think Haley would want that guy here? Plus, TO has a bad habit of trashing his QBs. He even blamed all of them for his not beating Jerry Rice’s record. The last thing a struggling Matt Cassel needs is a self obsessed QB killer throwing him under the bus because he’s washed up and won’t admit it that it’s his fault his stinks. If your going to sign an old man to play on your team sign one who doesn’t have a bad history with your coach and who won’t hurt your $60,000,000 QB.
For those that want TO, and claim he can catch…TO tied for fourth in the league in dropped passes last year. Tied with Bobby Wade and Mark Bradley among others and only 2 behind our esteemed Mr. Bowe. Add in his age and extra baggage he brings in…I think I’ll pass on that one, and I hope Pioli does too. We need help, but I hope we can do better than T.O.
T. O. Is totally overreated. Besides I think we can only afford one person on our team who has great speed but can’t bring in the ball… sorry bowe, but it’s true. At least bowe’s catch to pass % was higher than TO last year.
Didn’t Chambers have a better year than TO anyways?
If you look at the stats Chambers almost had a better year with the Chiefs than TO, and Chambers only played 9 games with the Chiefs.
I wish this deal was more for two years because we have seen Chamber disappear when he has a “healthy” contract, but I am sure its setup where we can cut him after year if we really had to.
Zach:
Yeah my guess is that the contract is front loaded in case he craps out on us or gets old too fast.
Just throwing options out there calm down killers haha
We luv ya 567.
Zach is right though. Owens was terrible last year.
I picked him up off the waiver wire in fantasy and he was dreadful. I never started him.
Get Lilja! Lilja released from the Colts! Get on it Scott!
Maybe they can get Golden Tate in the Draft,He could help us out, plus charley weise is familar with him.
Would the Chief’s nation fall apart if the Chief’s took Dez Bryant and used their first 2nd rd pick to take Anthony Davis(Rutgers) or Bulaga(Iowa)? One of them is bound to still be on the board. Then possibly trading their second 2nd round pick to Chicago for Olsen and also recieve from Chicago a performance based draft pick for next year. Imagine Chambers, Bowe, and Bryant with Olsen and Charles in the backfield!
the chief’s need to get gilyard
I didn’t believe this deal would happen. I’m glad I was wrong – unless of course we’ve already seen the best of Chambers. No matter, we still need to draft somebody who can run good routes, get separation, and for god’s sake catch the ball. If we can’t accomplish that task in the 1st 4 rounds, I’m afraid it’s going to be another long season.
