What Mike Goff’s departure tells us…

by Chiefs

Mike Goff, a key veteran signing in last year’s offseason, has been the Chiefs’ first victim of this year’s offseason. I’ll break down this information into message-sending mode: a high character guy with a proven record that just wasn’t cutting it in the Red & Gold — a mistake made by Pioli that was soon corrected a year later.

You know what that tells me?

I’ll give you two clues:

and

Curiouser and curiouser, isn’t it?

Anybody else hear the “Jaws” theme?

Damn Andrew, They're tearing you a new one, but get this, I AGREE with you.

I think whoever drafts Clausen is going to be set at QB, he has so much potential and all the intangibles. If he makes it to us, id like for us to draft him.

I love Cassel, and i think he could succeed with us given the tools, but Clausen can take us farther then Cassel could.

As my 5 year old would say, "That's just crazy talk." How on earth can you possibly be so 100% certain he's a franchise QB and Cassel is not? You can't. Review past drafts for the last 2 decades.

I have a long memory, think back to a notre dame QB that was drafted #2 overall after Bledsoe, anybody remember 1993 and a guy named Rick Mirer? Big time college QB, lousy pro. Santa Clausen reminds me of that former first round pick. The Chiefs are trying to build a winning team, not re-enact 1993. Drafting a QB at #5 is a recipe for another decade of lousy football at Arrowhead. How many games did Stafford win at Detroit last year? Do tou want to go through more losing seasons by drafting a QB?

Clausen will not be drafted by the chiefs I have nothing but respect for him but cassell looked like garbage the first half of the season but the second half when Charles started tearing it up him and Chambers were connecting on everything. My guess is trade down and get baluga (however you spell that)

Who can truly know where the Chiefs are going? Who would have guessed more than a week out that we would draft Tyson Jackson? Honestly, you didn't see that coming. He was the dark horse so to speak.

Clausen is a much better fit than Tyson ever was, because he's tailor-made for this offense. His statistics in a gigantic football program were stellar. His developer is now our offensive coordinator. And he has a ton of experience in a pro-style offense.

I am of the opinion that he doesn't slip by the Redskins. But if he does, we could do a lot worse.

How can you argue with the Packers results, crocker=clausen? Am I not advocating the exact same thing?

Douglas -

Regardless of my opinion of Clausen and regardless of your opinion of Cassel, the point is this - the Chiefs are NOT going to spend their #5 pick on a QB. So let's stop with the incessant posts about drafting Jimmy Clausen. I get that it's the offseason and there's not much going on, but let's stick with the realistic speculation, instead of these unbelievable posts about Jimmy Clausen. Last time I checked, this is a blog about the Chiefs, not Jimmy Clausen. Crocker said it himself, the Chiefs are not going to draft Clausen. So why are we talking about this AGAIN (and again and again)?

If I'm Chiefs GM, it would take this from Denver for me to trade Cassel to them:

1) Nothing happens until draft day. If Clausen is there at 5, we talk.

2) As far as draft picks, I need Denver's 1st or their 2nds for this year and next year or even their 2nd and 3rd for this year.

3) And I need Kyle Orton. Orton will be the journeyman backup for us who can start if we want to bench Clausen for a year or can backup Croyle for when he gets injured if we start Croyle instead.

If this went through here are some players we might pick up with Denver's picks. (Provided this very unlikely thing came to pass)

Their 1st: ILB McClain or NT Williams
Their 2nd: OL Ducasse or WR McCluster
Their 3rd: OLB Lang or Selvie

crocker=Clausen Finkle=Einhorn

You can not like Clausen all you want, but you have obviously lied about watching him. He barely missed a target this year. He completed 70% of his passes. And his QB rating was off the charts. All his stats and his play were better than Matthew Stafford's last year. Im with Crocker and we've bumped heads several time. Cut Cassel after next season. He will never be a franchise guy.

Wow. I have never left a comment here, but this is getting ridiculous.

I'm beginning to think that Andrew Crocker is Jimmy Clausen. Seriously dude, get over it. The Chiefs are not going to draft Jimmy Clausen, so why waste time speculating about it over and over and over again. I have watched Jimmy Clausen play plenty of football and I haven't seen anything that convinces me he will be a star in the NFL. But I get it, you LOVE him. You don't think the Chiefs will draft Clausen, but you think they SHOULD. Jimmy Clausen is SO AWESOME. I think we all get it! This is at least your third post saying the exact same thing. Seriously, enough.

What if Denver put together a package like Chicago did for Cutler. A trade for Cassell? Would Pioli make that deal, especially if he is sold on Clausen.

I am amazed on he discrepancy of opinions about Clausen. Some say he is a franchise type guy and some do not think he will do anything but be a career back-up. If you look at last year's #1, Stafford, and look at Clausen there is a distinct difference. I personaly like the logic, but.... I don't like the player.

Clausen, I hope we make the entire league believe we are willing to pull the trigger on him, then trade down and pick up a handful of picks. This is pure decoy work, and nothing else. They are not going to stuff $60M in a QBs pocket, then part with him after changing the offense 2 weeks before the reg season, a shuffling of WRs and OL, and no running game until Charles burst upon the scene. Make the entire league believe we are going with the best QB available. That is our strength when the #5 comes to fruition, scaring the crap out of Seattle, Cleveland, JAX, Denver, Buffalo, etc.

Aiken,

Make the case that Clausen is not a franchise quarterback.

Because I simply think it's indisputable. He's a franchise guy. Probably the best guy in this Draft (I dare you to name one that's better...). And groomed, might I add, by the guy running our offense.

Name for me the last time that's happened in the history of the NFL, and you'll get a grasp of how important this particular situation could become.

Yep, just like Todd Blackledge. Too good to pass up. Get over yourself.

Cassel's contract is ridiculously front-loaded.

It gets cheaper after this year. And this year, we have no cap.

Same idea cept ya kno we signed cassel To a 60 mil contract unlike goff

I specifically do not want to be called a genius -- my argument is that the Chiefs *should* take Clausen, not that they *will*. I have grown convinced that we're going with McClain.

HOWEVER.

Clausen represents such a rare opportunity for this team that I simply don't know how Pioli, if he was being honest with himself, could pass it up. An elite QB with franchise potential + the guy who produced him at Notre Dame.

You NEVER get that opportunity, and Cassel's not good enough to justify looking past it. And in an uncapped year, his contract serves as no excuse.

Same here. Repent of your foolishness!

Andrew my friend, you are killing. I am with Paddy on this one, there is absolutely no way that we take Clausen at number five.

If we do, I will come to this site everyday for the rest of my life and post that "Andrew Crocker is a genius".
