The Chiefs Should Sign Antrel Rolle

I have been hearing that the Arizona Cardinals owe FS Antrel  Rolle a 4 million dollar roster bonus next week. The Cards reportedly do not want to pay the bonus and will release Rolle before it is due. It is believed that the Cards would still like to resign Rolle to a long term deal but if I were him, I’d be a little upset at a team that wants to keep me but plans to release me for a little while to avoid paying me a bonus I have earned. Wouldn’t you?

Seems to me a team with some defensive needs and some money to spend should come along and scoop Rolle up before the Cards have a chance to resign him.

Enter Todd Haley.

What about Jarrad Page, you ask?

I like Page. He actually had a very good season in 2008, racking up 82 tackles

and 4 interceptions. What I don’t know, is if he is best suited for a 3-4 defense. Herm drafted Page and Pollard for the cover 2 defense. What is unfortunate is that Page only recorded 19 tackles last season before landing on IR. This development prevented us from seeing how well Page could perform in the Chiefs new defensive scheme.

Page is 25 and Rolle is 27. The upside is that Rolle has been playing in the 3-4 scheme for sometime in Arizona. If the Chiefs think Page can be their guy then they should obviously keep him. However, KC has so many needs that signing Rolle would enable them to flip Page for draft picks. Someone, like say, Gunther Cunningham, might be able to convince his GM that Page would be an excellent fit in the Lions terrible defense.

I am not sure what the Chiefs could get for Page. Given that he was taken in the 7th round, anything above that would be value, so long as it was fair given his talent level.

I think Page has proven to be at least worth a 3rd round pick, which if the Chiefs signed Rolle, would be a nice swing in value.

What do you think, Addicts? Can Page be successful outside of the cover 2 defense? Should the Chiefs swoop in and try to sign Rolle and trade Page or should they stick with him and focus their efforts on other positions of need.
