Rank Len Dawson

ESPN is allowing fans to rank the best QB’s with only one Super Bowl victory.
Our very own Len Dawson is one of the 18 person field and currently ranks #12 behind Eli Manning.
Think Lenny is getting the shaft being ranked behind Eli? I do too.
Get over to ESPN and show Lenny some love!

My off the top of my head rankings:
1.Johnny Unitas
2.Peyton Manning
3.Brett Favre
4.Len Dawson
5.Kurt Warner
6.Phil Simms
7.Steve Young
8.Ken Stabler
9.Joe Namath
10.Drew Brees
11.Jim McMahon
12.Eli Manning
13.Joe Theismann
14.Jeff Hostetler
15.Mark Rypien
16.Doug Williams
17.Brad Johnson
18.Trent Dilfer
It’s your typical poll that favors current and more recent players. That’s the bane of most polls.
February 8th, 2010 at 4:48 pmLooks pretty good Merlin but Joe Namath was terrible. If you actually look at his stats, Brees is 10 times the QB he is. Namath shouldn’t even be in the hall.
Career Completion %: 50.1
Record: 62-63-4
173 Career TD’s vs. 220 Career INT’s
I can’t figure out why he is considered good. Is it just because of the guarentee?
February 8th, 2010 at 4:58 pmDefinitely favors current and recent players. Unitas is even behind steve Young and P. Manning at the moment.
February 8th, 2010 at 4:58 pmJust noticed your comment, Patrick, and I agree with you 100% about Namath.
February 8th, 2010 at 5:00 pmNamath, Namath, Namath. That takes me back to when I was a kid in NY arguing Dawson over Namath to everyone around me. Basically, Namath was the Favre of his generation in a sense. He was a gunslinger on an average team. His personality in NY put the Jets and the AFL on the map. Super Bowl 3 cemented him in lore. He was a good QB on some not so good Jets teams. Brees looks good now since he just won. Right now, I am sticking with Namath over him and I am not a Joe Willie fan. Stat-wise, a lot of people would put Warner over Dawson. Would you all agree with that?
February 8th, 2010 at 6:24 pmthrow out the stats boys when measuring old time qb’s. these guys were leaders of men whoplayed football. the game today is much different and leadeship, poise, and courage are things not in any stat book. toughness personified these great old players.recent qb’s who had the big arms and were drafted highly but were not tough like them old timers include our own todd blackledge, tim crouch, boy, um, jeff george and several others. i think comparisons are just place to start arguments and debates. if your true chiefs fans then the only answer is lenny dawson.
February 9th, 2010 at 11:27 amanother thing most do not realize about the old chiefs. the o-line coach is, or was, bill walsh who credited hank stram with the west coast offense, only adjusted for rule changes. also the role model he had to teach montana was none other than our own lenny dawson. speaking of tough do you remember him playing several games on a bad leg. speaking of tough did you see matt cassell take the hits and keep on playing. i didn’t see any quit in him and am anticipating really big things in our near future. i’ll take a big heart of a leader any day over a big arm. if we can only get some guys who can make all the catches.
