Chiefs All-Pro Brian Waters was announced as a finalist for the Walter Payton Man Of The Year Award.

The award recognizes players for their service to the community as well as excellence on the field. The winner receives $25,000 donation to the charity of his choice.

Also in the running with Waters are Mike Furry of the Cleveland Browns and London Fletcher of the Washington Redskins.

Waters spoke on being named a finalist via a Chiefs press release.

“It’s an honor to serve the NFL and the Chiefs by assisting those both in Kansas City and my home state of Texas,” noted Waters. “In reality, what I’ve been able to give back to these communities represents only a small percentage of what they have done for me and my family. My goal is to not only do my part, but also to encourage others to do the same in their communities.”

The winner will be announced prior to the Super Bowl on January 7th.

Congratulations to Brian and here’s hoping he gets the Chiefs an unexpected victory on Super Bowl Sunday.
