Important Offseason Dates

facebooktwitterreddit

I know, I know, there is still football going on but not for the Chiefs. I am only happy about this fact because it helps keep me entertained and shortens the time between now and the draft.

The offseason can be a long, lonely time. We’ll be plugging along here at AA so make sure you log on for all the news and opinions you’ve come to expect. After the jump is most of the important upcoming dates. I couldn’t find exactly when the schedule comes out but it will be shortly after the draft I believe.

Thanks to Football Futures.com Chiefs forum for the info.

January 24 —   Conference Championships

I’m rooting for the Jets and T-Rich!

January 30 —   Senior Bowl

One last look at potential players for the upcoming draft.

January 31 —   Pro Bowl

Before the Super Bowl? Why? Just a stupid, stupid idea. I’m still watching though.

February 1: Beginning of period in which teams can designate ONE additional transition players (CBA Art. LVI, Section 4)

February 6: Hall of Fame Selection Committee meeting, Ft. Lauderdale, FL

February 7 —   Super Bowl XLIV

Let’s home it lives up to Cardinals/Steelers. If this ends up being Saints vs. Colts it could be one hell of a shootout.

February 11: Beginning of period in which teams can designate franchise and transition players

February 15: Deadline for designating ONE additional transition players (CBA Art. LVI, Section 4)

February 24 – March 2   —  NFL Scouting Combine

Rumor city. There should be a lot to discuss in late February.

February 25: Deadline for designating franchise and transition players

March 5: New League Year starts, this includes:

– Deadline for submission of qualifying offers by clubs to their restricted free agents whose contracts have expired and to whom they desire to retain a right of first refusal/compensation

– Deadline for clubs to submit offer of minimum salary to retain exclusive negotiating rights to their players with fewer than three seasons of free agency credit whose contracts have expired

– Beginning of free-agent signing period (12:01 AM ET)

– Beginning of trade period (12:01 AM ET)

March 21 – 24 —   NFL Annual Meeting

This is when the NFL votes on rule changes and things like that. Nothing terrible interesting usually happens here. There could be a vote on expanding the season this year.

April 22 – 24 —   NFL Draft in NYC

New Chiefs! Whahoo! Here is how it breaks down:

  • Round 1: Thursday, 4/22 6:30-10:30 PM CT
  • Rounds 2-3: Friday, 4/23 5:30-10 PM CT
  • Rounds 4-7: Saturday, 4/24 11 AM to 5 PM CT

June 1:

– Deadline for old clubs to send tender to unsigned unrestricted free agents to receive exclusive negotiating rights for rest of the season if player is not signed by another club by July 22

– Deadline for old clubs to send tender to unsigned restricted free agents or to extend qualifying offer to retain exclusive negotiating rights

June 15: Deadline for old clubs to withdraw original qualifying offer to unsigned restricted free agents and still retain exclusive negotiating rights by submitting tender of 110 percent of previous year’s salary
July 22:

– Deadline for franchise players to sign new contracts/being traded

– Deadline for tendered but unsigned UFA/RFA to sign with new clubs

July ??: Chiefs open Training Camp, Missouri Western State University, St. Joseph, MO

Aug 7: Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, Canton, OH

Aug 8: Hall of Fame Game, Fawcett Stadium, Canton, OH

YES! Football is back. The Hall of Fame game is only a little over 6 months away…Sigh.
