Chan Gailey Named Bills Offensive Coordinator

There have been rampant reports that former Chiefs offensive coordinator Chan Gailey is going to be the next head coach of the Buffalo Bills.

Well now, ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that the deal is done. The team has called a press conference for 2PM EST today to announce the hire.

Reports Schefter:

"The Bills are said to be impressed with how Gailey has brought teams to the playoffs with quarterbacks such as Mike Tomczak, Kordell Stewart and Jay Fiedler. In fact, Bill Cowher — whom the Bills had been courting to replace the fired Dick Jauron — highly recommended Gailey to the Bills."

Gaily coached the Dallas Cowboys for 2 seasons in 1998-99. Gaily took the team to the playoffs in both seasons but failed to win a playoff game. Two playoff appearances in two years, by a first time NFL head coach, were apparently not enough for Jerry Jones and Gaily was fired.

I am very happy for Gaily. I felt bad about the way his tenure in Kansas City ended, even though I agree that it will probably serve the team in the long run. Chan’s “Arrowspread” offense was  largely responsible for making the 2008 season bearable. I’ve also always thought he got a rather raw deal in Dallas, so this will be a chance for him to get some redemption.

Good luck Chan.
