Sound Off: Rookie Mistakes

I wanted to get a thread going about rookie mistakes that Todd Haley made this year. It is normally not my style to be negative, but in watching the last couple of games I could not help but think that this year could have been different but for a few adjustments. I am sure Todd Haley would be the first to admit that he made some mistakes and has learned from them. I will start it off:

Mistake #1: Throwing out the majority of the offensive playbook when Gailey was let go after a tough training camp.

Mistake #2: Haley putting too much trust and emphasis on Larry Johnson and not knowing what he had in Jamaal Charles.

Mistake #3: Sitting Derrick Johnson for most of the year. (yes, I just said that) Maybe Demorio Williams had a good year, but how is Corey Mays/Jovan belcher better than DJ, especially in coverage?

Mistake #4: Sitting Brad Cottam for most of the year.

Mistake #5: Being much too conservative in the play calling in the begining of the year.

Mistake #6: Keeping Vrabel ahead of Studebaker. (Vrabel has lost a step and when rushing the passer gets pushed out wide everytime. Studebaker produced more in his little time than did Vrabel).

So, Addicts, what do you think. Sound off?

I would say one of the areas I hope he works on is demonstrating better leadership by not losing his composure and game focus with every misplay. Good coaches tend to reassure their players after something bad happens by saying stuff like "forget about that one - I've seen you make that catch a thousands times at practice so I know you'll get the next one . . . just do what you and I both know you can do."

D Johnson would make a better running back than L Johnson ever thought about being!

Nice points Alex, especially Haley challenging Charles, never thought of it that way.

its time to be positive....its time to embrace haley, and what hes trying to do, they will bring in more coaches he has been quoted calling this a 2 year project for putting coaches together.

I think hindsight is 20/20,I also think EVERYONE is overlooking charles and his early fumble issues, and he was not as confident, haley challenged him early on to play harder, to run harder, to hold onto the ball....why they fed LJ the ball, I dont know...but really, I am a big JC fan...but moreso I think its time ro realize haley DID make rookie mistakes, but lets stop picking on him, and look at what we can improve...he knows he must improve as well...

all im saying it, mcdaniels was an idiot, then he wins 6, and hes called a genious, then he loses his playoff berth and hes an idiot again...so...really...I say dont overreact, he had to get rid of bad seeds, vermeil got the same reaction getting rid of leslie o'neal that haley got with pollard...they also made the move to remove LJ, some would have not paid him and let him walk free.

anyway, just be positive, and look at the draft, and who to hire.....if we keep fueling this get rid of haley fire...its just pointless if you consider a new OC/DC this season...CMON...they wont be firing him anytime soon.
