Haley Needs To Fire Haley and Haley

by AADQ

I was watching that poor performance against the Bills and things finally snapped with me. On offense the Chiefs are not prepared. Matt Cassel is not prepared properly. He is still a very young quaterback in terms of experience. Unfortunately, Todd Haley decided that the best Offensive Coordinator he could find was Todd Haley. He also decided that the best Quarterback Coach he could find was Todd Haley. I think it be becoming clear that Todd Haley can not do justice to the Chiefs serving in all three roles.

So, I believe that Head Coach Todd Haley needs to fire Offensive Coordinator Todd Haley and fire Quarterback Coach Todd Haley at the end of the year. If he doesn’t, perhaps Scott Pioli should sack all three Haleys. Our team deserves better than Haley times three. Players need attention. The gameplans need dedicated coaches, not a Head Coach spread all over the place. Gary Kubiac for Offensive Coordinator and Steve DeBerg for QB Coach (If anyone can get him). They would be my first choices. Addicts, what do you think?

dude check the big plays...remember those we give up way too much yardage on big plays thats why we need a new defensive coordinator and some safeties wouldn't hurt either

OK ENOUGH! You guys need to lay the fuck off of Pendergast for the moment. Why? If you were the Defensive Coordinator for this team you couldn't do any better than he has. NO Defense is ANY good when it is constantly on the field because the poor excuse of an offense we have keeps going 3 and out! I for one think our defense has done a great job until the second half when they just get plain jane fucking tired. They might as well be playing both ways!

I think the last thing we need is to bring another peson in who acts like they invented the game of football.

Double D!!! An alumnus!!! Fantastic. All is alive and well here at the u, where believe it or not, I'm an administrator down here in Cardinals/Rams land. Keeping the Red and Gold alive down here in south-central MO!!!

True, true, on Weis, Merlin. And everyting we've learned about him at ND indicates he has a VERY strong personality. Still research other P-E devotees who might make good OC's...

Rolla:

I hear you on Pendergast. I am not a zone converage fan, so I want that to change. I think the biggest thing right now is to get Haley to focus on being a head coach and not trying to work too many areas. The rumor with Weiss and Pioli is that they were both vying for attention under Bellicheat. As such, they developed a mutual dislike for each other. If that is indeed the case, Weiss will not come to KC.

RollaChief,

Welcome brother. I'm fairly familiar with Rolla myself - got my undergrad there. Had (too) many friends on the St. Pat's board. :P
Great times, great memories.

If not Weis, Merlin, then I'm hoping for another Perkins-Erhardt guy. I'm a big fan of the system. It doesn't have the silly shifting, throw-to-a-spot scheme of the Coryell offense, and uses mismatches better than the WCO, which is a "we'll line up our guys and you line up yours, and we'll beat 'em" mentality. I like different looks, and the easy incorporation of the shotgun into the P-E system.

Interesting, Merlin, on the possibility that Weis and Pioli don't like each other. I'll do some more research on who might be a good fit for OC.

But I want Pendergast's vanilla, bend-then-break hybrid GONE. Haley's should learn the lesson that you don't hire your buddies as coordinators.

BTW--great site, guys, from a new member--the Arrowhead Addict (I was swaddled in a Chiefs blanket) in Rolla, MO!!

It's very frustrating to me that Haley has been given the opportunity to be the head coach of an NFL team and he can't just do his job. He thinks he can do a better job than anyone else, and he's messing it up. There's a reason each team has several specialized coaches... the head coach cannot spread his attention around like Haley is trying to do. Firing Chan Gailey was a DUMB MOVE.

The offense is horrendous. We wouldn't even almost be competitive if not for Jamaal Charles right now. Haley seems to think that just because he's been a successful wide receivers coach and offensive coordinator in the past, that he can still do that while trying to be the head coach of a team, and it's simply not working.

So yeah... if Haley can't be the HC of this team without also trying to be the offensive coordinator and everything else, then we need a new HC.

I would like to hear from Haley if he is surprised at the results of the play of the team? Is this what he expected from the team at this point in the season? Maybe someone should ask him at the next press conference.

Rolla:

I am with you on Wade Phillips and you make good points about Kubiac. I wouldn't mind shaking things up a bit offensively. Rumors are that Weiss and Pioli dislike each other. I am not sure we would go for Weiss, obvious connections aside. Yes, Kubiac would bring a different offensive scheme, but it's one I think fits our personnel. So, I am tossed his name out as a more out of the tree choice.

We should probably think of Todd Haley as the receivers coach also, or at least the assistant receivers coach. Either way, fire him too! So many dropped balls across the board suggests the problem is with how they're being coached, rather than how they're performing individually.

Kubiak runs Shanahan's modified WCO, with zone blocking. While Haley's Perkins-Erhardt scheme does in fact feature zone blocking in the running game, the philosophy and terminology of the two philosophies are quite different. Not a good fit. Besides, I'd expect Shanahan, wherever he is, to scoop up Kubiak in the event that the Texans' coach is fired.

My choice is Charlie Weis--the connections are innumerable, and I don't buy that junk about two strong heads clashing. Weis and Haley shared an office for three years, know each other well, and . DeBerg isn't available. He runs a football training facility for kids in Tampa, and has no interest in coaching. He does occasionally work with college kids and pros, but has often publicly eschewed coaching gigs.

I want Pendergast fired, too. Wade Phillips is my guy. Knows the Parcells 3-4 defense (also run by Belichick, of course, and Ron Rivera in San Diego), and is a fantastic DC.
