Jamaal Charles

As many of you know, along with writing for Arrowhead Addict, I also am the Chiefs draft needs analyst for Drafttek.com. As such, I always have an eye on next year’s draft. Part of that evaluation, of course, is the evaluation of the current players on the roster. As players rise and fall, I adjust the Chiefs needs accordingly. This brings us to Jamaal Charles. Going into this season, I had him pegged as a third down back. Since the departure of LJ, Charles has stepped up and shown some toughness and physical play I didn’t know he was capable of. Yes, fumbles are still a problem, but he has been breaking tackles and been a lot tougher to bring down than I thought he was.

At this point, I am considering him a vital part of the running back by committee approach. I don’t think he can last a season getting twenty plus touches a game. However, if we could keep him to around fifteen touches a game, he could really help us. This would require obtaining a back to provide the ‘thunder’ to his ‘lightning’.

What do you think Addicts? Is Charles more than a third down back? Do you think he is capable of carrying a full load like Warrick Dunn did? Or do you agree with me that he is best suited to around fifteen touches a game? Would you like to see him still return kickoffs or save him for regular downs?
