What is Matt Cassel's Future In The NFL?

I get to pick it up when we go fishing this morning and its fair to say I’m extremely excited about the gift.

As she told me about the photo, we discussed the future of Matt, we both think its pretty bright.

I then began to wonder what my family  at AA thinks about that young man. Here is your opportunity to let the world know.

The questions:

1. Is Matt Cassel the franchise quarterback in KC for years to come?

2. Will he make it through the rebuilding process healthy?

3. Is he destined for greatness or the Damon Huard home for retired back-ups?

            BallHype: hype it up!

    1. He is the man in KC for seven years or more IF…
    2. He makes it through the demolition process (JH I’m on board)a thought which keeps me up occasionally some nights.
    3. He will be considered a solid or even great quarterback and will be signing plenty of prints the rest of his life.

Well hard to tell the future , But I think your right on . He may not end up being a T.Brady or P.Manning but if he`s close I`m not going to complain. Just lets hope he dosent get killed waiting for some help…

If he doesn’t pull a Jim Everett, he should be a average to slightly above average starting QB. Say, someone in the 10-18 range of the starting QB’s. You can win a Super Bowl with him, but he is not going to win it for you. That is, he has to be surrounded by a lot of talent.

Merlin I think thats dead on. Perfect.

I was a little confused by Haley’s comment the other day that they were “a little heavy on Offensive line”. Seemingly refering to having extra bodies for the O-line than they would have liked. Was this a quantity over quality move?

Cassel showed he can perform when given a bit of talent to throw to (Chambers). Even with the poor play our O-line has produced to date, Cassel has shown flashes of why he was brought here. Imagine if he had a half way decent line in front of him.

    1. I think a reference to David Carr is better than Everett. If he can survive the hits his O-line lets him take and not get shell shocked, he will be a good one.

    2. I think thats the 60 Million dollar question.

    3. I don’t think he has to be a Manning or a Brees, look at how Orton has faired behind a decent line with a good system to work within. I don’t think it’s a lot of talent but rather some talent.

thats well said SGT. To me Cassel is head and shoulders about anything we were hoping for this time last year.

Well…Viewing this topic from afar here in PA, and only having access to the stats and what the media is saying, I can see that Cassel is doing an admirable job, considering what he has as tools to work with. Those “tools”, and how successful the Chiefs are in the future will depend on what the brass in the offices at Arrowhead drum up for him. There is talent out there and it appears the Chiefs are willing to pony up the cash to go get some. Plus the Chiefs are a marketable team to play for, which helps. And now that LJ is gone, the “Chief Thief” as I’d like to call him, won’t spread that cancer around the locker room or in to the team anymore. I find it intriguing that the Chiefs rushed for over 100 yards today, just a week after LJ was given his walking papers. And I read that Haley had one of his best “Friday” practices in preparation for the Raiders game. Another good “sign”. Is the LJ cancer finally going away? Probably. Good riddance, diaper-man, and I’m a Penn State fan too. Hey, this “comeback” has to start somewhere. Its still going to take several years for this franchise to completely reverse itself from the dumps its in now. Unless of course lightning strikes and they come with a gem, or gems. Cassel, Bowe and even Succup are the conerstones it appears. However, notice I didn’t mention any defensive guys. That’s because there’s nothing there to brag about, yet. Patience, patience, patience. I can sense something positive is beginning to happen.

Lastly, yes. Cassel is an NFL caliber quarterback. Haley is an NFL caliber Head Coach. At least the Chiefs have a chance to find out if both can work it out. They/he just needs help……

I disagree with the final statement chiefkeg. Saying that Haley is an NFL caliber head coach is a little premature. Next year will yield more on that subject. Cassel is first class. This upcoming draft is important. We need offensive linemen. We need defensive help. I will be watching very closely. GM Pioli will answer many questions about his abilities. The second half of the year will reveal a lot about the coach, the team and what the future may look like.

This is basically only his sophmore season. Look at Mannings numbers in his 1st and 2nd season.
