I remember that like yesterday. The AFC Championship was gonna be on my 21st birthday. The greatest gift a Chiefs fan can ask for…..a Super Bowl trip. That was a great year, a great team, shattered by the lack of heart by one Lin Elliot. My heart still hurts from that day. Only twice have I cried over a football game, that day, and my first trip to Arrowhead as my beloved Chiefs took the field. My worst and greatest day as a Chiefs fan.

Thanks ajs, Memory banks fading. The point I was trying to make is that Indy did not belong on field with us and yet they won. I say again while the kicking was certainly lacking, it should not have come down to that.

Actually, you’re getting the ‘95 and ‘97 seasons mixed up. ‘95 and ‘97 seasons were both 13-3 seasons, but ‘97 was the season that Gannon got benched for Grbac when he came back against Chicago, I think, in the last game of the season. Good ol’ Steve Bono was the QB in ‘95 and he contributed to the loss to Indy as well. What a painful memory to recall

Correct me if I am wrong. I am doing this off of the top of my head. The Chiefs came into that game after a bye week and finished the year 13-3. Indy was a .500 football team. The qb who got us to the playoffs was benched because coach san believed that a starter should not lose his job due to injury. It was the worst coached game of Marty’s playoff career. It might be fun to pin the loss on one guy, but from where I sit it was total team effort.

PS: What ever happened to that Hall of Fame running back for Indy.
