Un-Happy Birthday To Mr. Lin Elliot

Posted by: jeremyhanson

Born on November 11, 1968 in Euless, Texas was K Lin Elliott. He joined the Chiefs as a free agent in 1994 after two seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, including a trip to the Super Bowl. Elliott kicked for two seasons with the Chiefs (1994-95), hitting 49 of 60 FG attempts and 64 of 67 PAT kicks. But it was his missed FGs against Indianapolis in the ‘95 playoffs that ended his NFL career. Elliott was wide right on a 35-yard attempt, and wide left on kicks from 30 and 42 yards in the Chiefs 10-7 defeat. (Hat tip to Bob Gretz)

Remembering those missed kicks still makes me sick to my stomach.  Marty too, I am sure.

You know, I could cut the guy some slack if he missed one kick, but for christ sake he missed three. One of which was only 30 yards. I am still sick about it.

If I recall right, DT said something to him in the locker room like “we need you out there” and all he could come up with was “we need you out there too”. What a chump.

Correct me if I am wrong. I am doing this off of the top of my head. The Chiefs came into that game after a bye week and finished the year 13-3. Indy was a .500 football team. The qb who got us to the playoffs was benched because coach san believed that a starter should not lose his job due to injury. It was the worst coached game of Marty’s playoff career. It might be fun to pin the loss on one guy, but from where I sit it was total team effort.

PS: What ever happened to that Hall of Fame running back for Indy.

    PSS: Happy Birthday Lin Elliot.

Actually, you’re getting the ‘95 and ‘97 seasons mixed up. ‘95 and ‘97 seasons were both 13-3 seasons, but ‘97 was the season that Gannon got benched for Grbac when he came back against Chicago, I think, in the last game of the season. Good ol’ Steve Bono was the QB in ‘95 and he contributed to the loss to Indy as well. What a painful memory to recall :(

When you’re team puts you in position to make three makeable field goals, you gotta convert.

I still remember the condo I was at when I saw that game, the color of the couch and the color of the carpet, since I stared at them for so long with my head down :-(

Thanks ajs, Memory banks fading. The point I was trying to make is that Indy did not belong on field with us and yet they won. I say again while the kicking was certainly lacking, it should not have come down to that.

I remember that like yesterday. The AFC Championship was gonna be on my 21st birthday. The greatest gift a Chiefs fan can ask for…..a Super Bowl trip. That was a great year, a great team, shattered by the lack of heart by one Lin Elliot. My heart still hurts from that day. Only twice have I cried over a football game, that day, and my first trip to Arrowhead as my beloved Chiefs took the field. My worst and greatest day as a Chiefs fan.

I remember it was so cold at that game, maybe around ZERO. When he miss the last kick the whole stadium just stood up and walked out
