A Quick Bye Week Thought
Being a devout Chiefs fan lately has been very painful for all of us. It has even harkened some to question their fandom and quit. However, just remember, this pain is only temporary, it will obviously last the rest of this season, and maybe into the next, but the pain will go away, and in its stead will be great pride, as it once was. If you abandon your fanaticism of the Chiefs now, your disappointment will last forever. Just think about how wonderful it is going to be to say that you have always been a Chiefs fan even through its darkest days, as I believe we currently are. Keep the faith and fanaticism.

I must admit I was much more optimistic about this season before it started,, even with the sad shape of our Chiefs, I am still confident much better days are coming. But there is one thing that really bothers me, I am offended every time I see the 50th anniversary logo,, I realize the Hunt family are Texans and they own the team but the Texans were only in Dallas for three years and apparently not well supported, now for 47 years Kansas City has supported the team very, very well,,, so I guess we got some Texas dirt kicked in our face.
Hang in there Chiefs fans!!
October 30th, 2009 at 7:58 amI watched every snap of Chiefs football last season, even the overtime game against the Jets. I don’t even know the concept of giving up on a team, as a fan …
October 30th, 2009 at 3:10 pmOur darkest days? Isn’t that a bit melodramatic. I haven’t heard talk like this since Churchill and the Battle of Britain.
October 31st, 2009 at 10:25 amJeremy, yes this season and last have been painful so far. I don’t think this equates into the darkest days the Chiefs have experienced. However, if some aspects of the team don’t improve even a little, and soon, we will be on par with some of the worst seasons the Chiefs have ever know.
Lets look at what I would consider our weakest performing part of the team; offense. Chiefs records indicate that the full season with the lowest number of offensive touchdowns is 1982 with 13. We are now halfway through this season and I count 11 offensive touchdowns so far. We would have to really fall apart to match that.
In 1972 we only rushed for 6 touchdowns. This year, so far, we have 0. The seasons with the fewest passing touchdowns are 1978 and 1979 with 7 each season. This season, of course, all 11 of our touchdowns were through the air.
In 1998 we set a new NFL record for penalties in a season with 158, having 17 in 1 game alone with Seattle. In the turn over ratio in 1987 we took the ball away 28 times while giving it away 41 times for a -14(team worst). In 1976 we successfully sacked the opponents QB 22 times(team worst).
These are all interesting stats, but I think in looking at the numbers of many of these Chiefs records we can safely say the Chiefs of the late 70s we worse overall than any of the others. In 1977 we were 2-12. But without some immediate improvement several of those records might be broken.
Of interesting note, in 1987 & 88 we were 8-22-1. In 1989 Derrick Thomas was voted Rookie of the Year and Christian Okoye was Offensive Player of the year and we went 8-7. In 1990 to 1995 we went to the playoffs every year peaking in 1993 when we lost the AFC Championship to the Buffalo Bills. That same year Derrick Thomas was voted Man of the Year and Marcus Allen was Comeback Player of the Year.
October 31st, 2009 at 1:32 pmOn the other side of the coin , the new catch phrase seems to be, “You are what your record says you are.”
So by that guage, last year was the Chiefs worst season ever; 2-14 being worse than 2-12.
October 31st, 2009 at 4:10 pmAs I write this I am looking at the AA logo with a picture of Willie Lanier on it. The best middle linebacker of his era. Period. That is the light at the end of the tunnel. It is called greatness. This franchise has a great history. It has been a on a little bit of a slide, but the tide has turned. We know what needs to be done. Lets do it. Let us aspire to greatness. The goal is not one Super Bowl. The goal is to create a winning franchise with multiple opportunities to will that ring.
PS: chieflonghair your thoughts just totally messed up.
November 1st, 2009 at 9:25 amThe taste of victory is always sweeter after you have tasted defeat. If someone leaves because his team is not winning they are not a fan anyway, they probably only own a D. Hall jersey anyway. When my Chiefs are winning again all of my friends will tell their friends about me and my journey.
November 1st, 2009 at 2:03 pmIt might give you some street credit to say that sort of thing, but you have to know something about the KC teams during their down times. It’s hard to find ANYbody in a winning season that you can dispute their “I’ve always been a KC fan” claim.
But we know who we all are, at any rate. One good thing about a sucky team is that the bloggers you find really care about football!
November 1st, 2009 at 3:23 pmI have been a KC fan so long that I could never see myself switching teams! Finding a new team = Band Wagon Fan!
November 2nd, 2009 at 8:51 amI joke about switching to another team, but let’s face it, I am a Homer and LOVE my Texans, er I mean Chiefs. I am disappointed we don’t have more posts more often this year. We had a rough year last year, yet there were new posts pretty much every day. Are our Addict faithful writers too busy or just too tired of losing to post more often? I miss jawing back and forth with Senior Adam!!
In all seriousness, I am EXTREMELY disappointed at our showing against the Dolts! Yes they tons of talent, but they have only beaten one freaking team with a minimal winning record, Miami. Their other three wins are KC, OAK and OAK. We should not have lost that game by 30. We need to come up with some offensive firepower for the rest of the season to get these youngsters some more wins to boost confidence to win the division next year! We are in desperate shape and if they don’t get more wins for the youngsters we might end up being the new version of the Clowns or the old version of the Cardinals that rarely won games. I am worried.
November 3rd, 2009 at 9:03 amIf you jump ship on a losing team, I think you would be a “burning-wagon fan.” I have three Chiefs tattoos and i still shave my head every time they win(arrowheads on my head.) I know that every game this year, we have fought to at least stay close. Until that pathetic performance hosting San Diego, I didn’t think our record reflected how close most of the games were. I just hope they turn some of these close games into wins in the second half, and maybe hit next season with a little momentum. Go Chiefs!
November 3rd, 2009 at 4:09 pmWhats going on around here, Chiefs get a bye week and this site shuts down…? Something had to happen in the last five days. Chris Chambers for example. Jeez what happens in the off season…
November 3rd, 2009 at 10:51 pmWHY THE $@&% ARE WE PICKING UP CHAMBERS?????? HAS HALEY FIGURED OUT THAT WE NEED OFFENSIVE LINE HELP AND NOT FREAKING RECEIVING HELP YET!!!?????? THIS IS BS!!!
November 4th, 2009 at 9:50 amI agree with slack, where you fellas at?
November 4th, 2009 at 10:30 amHere’s another topic: Jared Page to IR. His injury must have been worse than expected.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:32 amThey are saying partially torn calf muscle and to me that sounds painfull…
November 4th, 2009 at 2:50 pmI agree. Living IN the darkdays, as this is being called, is just that….darkdays. THIS project of a Chiefs team will take time and patience. First things first there has to be a willingness and a committment to winning. Believe it or not thats what Pioli and the boys are doing, not only with the players and staff but with the fans. They’re seeing who’s gonna stay and who should walk, and some tough decisions are coming. This years over, and so is probably next year. I’m afraid this rebuilding will take several years because truthfully, that’s how far behind the Chiefs Roster when viewed up against an elite team. Soooooooooo, be patient everybody….Its gonna take awhile and some nifty moves on the Chiefs brass to right this ship. But please, don’t trade any draft choices away, especially a #1.
