Arrowhead Adventures: Chiefs vs Giants and the Horror of Acceptance

by Chiefs

chiefsgiants 012An absolute gorgeous day at Arrowhead today. Double D met up with us briefly in my section and we discussed the fact that by half time the score did not reflect the terrible performance  that we all witnessed today.

My buddy Aaron and I had planned on hooking up with Eric Crane but our late arrival at the stadium forced us to postpone that until hopefully next weekend.

The parking lot crowd was happy and cheerful, those wonderful smells of charcoal smoke filled the air, and a perfect outside temperature and breeze made  it impossible not to enjoy the gift of life.

Ace Frehley, the original lead guitarist for KISS played the Star Spangled Banner which was a real thrill for me to see, and that was followed by an unannounced extremely cool Air Force flyover.

I brought my camera for the first time since I moved to the field level and thought I would show off a little of my handiwork, and here it is.

The turnover on the first play of the game met with jeers and boo’s but the mood quickly changed to match the sunny disposition of the afternoon sky.

The miserable failure of the two back to back wildcat plays in the first quarter met not with anger and frustration but amusement.

As halftime approached I casually smiled to myself as the people in my section mugged for the Jumbotron.

Though the Chiefs were getting junked punched for a losing streak I’ve lost track of, we were all having an ass slapping good time!

And that’s when it hit me.

Arrowhead has waived the white flag. Arrowhead has thrown in the towel. We fun loving tailgaters at Arrowhead have surrendered.

Gone are the days when a pass that hits the opposing player in the back of the head was nothing to chuckle over.  The countless number of failed attempts to score in the Red Zone no longer anger her fans.

She doesn’t remember what its like to win.

Arrowhead Addict is a site whose purpose is to promote debate and discussion, and I would like nothing more to be convinced that I’m wrong but I don’t think I am.

As I put my Arrowhead gear away tonight I’m not thinking of the next game we could have a chance to win, but if my friend Lori and I are going to try the new gas slow cooker I got for my birthday and if Crane and his crew will want to join us for Tailgate Toss.

Loss after loss, I always felt the Chiefs were never going to wind up like the Lions. Now a creeping feeling in my gut is starting to suggest to my brain that I might be wrong.

WHAT DO YOU THINK ADDICTS? IS THE ARROWHEAD PARTY OVER?

I agree Woody it was old Arrowhead for sure.

I think when they know it is win-able, they believe again...

You could feel it in the Raider's game when we scored...We believed and got loud, causing 3 false starts...But they let us down again...

Great feedback Addicts, you hit it right on the head. Tim said it best, we have found ways to enjoy ourselves during the rebuilding process. Detroit fans lost that years ago. Just what I needed, I'm back in the saddle, and my Stubhub listings are all inactive again! My steak is back on I'm gonna go three years straight and beyond!

Jeremy,

Not sure where you got the 2-27 3rd down conversion stat from - I was referring to the W-L record over the last 29 games. 3rd down conversion ratio for the 2009 season so far is 9 of 51. Pretty pathetic no matter how you look at it.

Haha i love this article i also felt amused after the back to back wildcat plays... and also i went to Arrowhead last year and that's so true we debated the team and what our obvious problems are... we dont plan on winning

I have another observation/suggestion based on what I saw on Sunday. Perhaps it is high time we abandon the old-dated notion of punting on 4th down? Haley has clearly proven this to be an obsolete concept. I say trade Colquitt now - his trade value will never be higher!!

Is anybody, other than me, wondering whether Pioli's first choice for Head Coach was McDaniels? I recall at the time there was a lot of speculation about it.

Quazzimotto: I agree we will put up our best games when we get into our AFC west stretch later in the year.

As always thanks for the great post Randy. I coul=d see here in CA that the stadium was not filled to capacity and the fans looked indiffferent. That is what losing will do to you.

However, I still see progress. Don't hate on the Defense, when your offense is 2 out of 27 on third downs, of course they are going to give up lots of yards. Tamba is still giving it 100 percent, our dbs look great. We need our other linebackers to do better.

Sean Ryan is not that great. Sure he caught a TD, but he had two false starts at home, and missed a couple of big blocks, and I have seen him drop at least a couple of cathces that hit him square in the chest.

Matt Cassel is a gamer. I like what I see, he had a couple of overthrows, but with more time he will get even better.

We will win this year.

At 2-27, the Chiefs have set yet another NFL record for bad.

The team? Well, they seem to be a long way from being fun to watch.
As for Arrowhead? The road goes on forever and the party never ends.

I have been a fan since I knew what football was at the age of 7. Every Sunday (or rare Monday) I'm like a kid in a candy store.. smile on my face, hope in the eyes.. can't see what happens. I don't care if the Chiefs go 0-16 this year - I'll still be that same person. Maybe that gives me incentive to complain about the Chiefs every once in a while... maybe it doesn't - but still, regardless of what happens, I'll still be a fan... a true fan, and I'll watch the Chiefs in person or at home saying "They can still come back... there's 5 minutes left in the 4th!" :)

great posts Q and T great posts. Tim that is right on. Q Im getting back on the horse! Cant wait to get back up there!

Great bad boys reference Quazzimotto. I was going to blast your previous post, but you saved yourself with that quote.

In regards to the above article, not sure who wrote it but it certainly holds true.

As a fan, you have to find ways to enjoy yourself regardless of the teams performance. It happens in every code of sport. If you win, that is enough entertainment and enjoyment, but if you lose, you look for other ways to enjoy yourself. Its not a matter of giving up, or surrendering. A single fan can't effect the way the game will go, but a single play can effect a fan's whole day. Do what you need to do in order to enjoy yourself, and hopefully after all else fails, after you have exhausted every other means of entertainment, we will win again.

And Randy, you're the most upbeat, positive guy on here! Come on man! The team sucks. It hurts my eyes just to watch. But that's what we do. We ride together we die together! Fans for life baby, thru thick and thin! Hop back up on that horse brother! Things will get better. They certainly can't get much worse!

Maybe we are in survival mode?

On a few other sites I've come across donkey fans who heckle and provoke the sites' masses into a frenzy of righteous hate. One of the mainstays they use is "we have a new team AND a new coach and we're 4-0, you got SCREWED!".

Really? I'm going out on a limb here but Shanahan compared to Herm is like comparing Aristotle to Tom Green. Retarded. What Shanahan left McD in Denver is miles ahead of what Haley was given by Herm.

This is a project team that is obviously NOT turning any new leaves in year one of our lord and savior, Jesus Pioli. I struggle watching this crap every week just like the rest of us. Its frustrating as hell to sit thru. But this is a project that will require time and a massive amount of effort to fix. And I'm not talking turn around by next year either, this will take awhile.

That has finally sunk in. Going into next season tho will bring many more changes (hopefully an OL and a new DC too), and again we'll have another "new-ish" team. But it will progress and begin to build and take shape. And over the next several seasons, I believe we'll see what we've dreamed about for so long.

It will be awful gratifying (for me), to watch us beat the SH$T out of the AFC West in convincing fashion. My biggest dream besides the Chiefs in the superbowl, is going to Mile High and whooping ass and taking names. Then coming back here and doing it all over again. Like salt in the wound. Every year. That will become my new FAVORITE Chiefs moment. And it will happen. Patience. Good things come to those who wait. Been waiting awhile, but I'll hang on for awhile longer. Go Chiefs!
