Whats Your Favorite Game Day BBQ Joint?

by Chiefs

bryantsOpening day  this Sunday is going to find me and my game partner Jennifer at the world Famous Arthur Bryant’s in KC. To your right is exactly what I’ll be poking down my game day gullet.

I first found out about Arthur Bryant’s when my buddy and I found an early seventies playboy under his parents bed. It proclaimed Arthur Bryants to be “the best restaurant in the world”.I’ve never given that any argument.

Arthur Bryants opens at 10:00am on game days,  my persistent knocks on the window at 9:30 usually prompt an early turn of the open sign. Works even better if you can get some of the lovely ladies that surround the place on game mornings involved. If you aren’t hungry yet, throw the football around with the other fans on the lot.

Its a tradition of mine to tip the meat cutter a dollar, it always pays dividends. The best place to leave the bribe is right under the “do not tip the meat cutter sign”, but make it on the sly.

Sometimes I have ‘em wrap it up and I set up my little table and chairs at the stadium and go to town. Other times I eat it there. A 10:00 am arrival either way works very well with stadium traffic.

I usually get my leftovers out after the game and finish it off while waiting for traffic to thin. I have never bothered to refrigerate it while it sits in the car and have always lived to pass along a fresh set of Arrowhead Adventures .

In KC its Arthur Bryants, or LC’s (we shall explore this before the Giants home game) for me and my game day crew.

HOW ABOUT IT ADDICTS? WHAT GAME DAY BBQ ARE YOU ADDICTED TO?

Randy,

Oklahoma Joe's is in a gas station on the northeast corner of Mission Rd and 47th St, just a few feet into Dotland.

I think they also have a newer place out in Olathe somewhere.

A FIRST FOR ME AT ARTHUR BRYANTS! A guy tipped the guy at least four bucks and he grapped it and stuffed it in his pocket then piled it on big time. We got quite a bit too, apparently he thought we were a group. Gotta find Oklahoma Joes! Who can tell me where it is?

Yes I had the rib tip / pulled pork combo, I should have gotten the sliced pork but it was fantatic and had a full meal when I got home last night. Will hit LC's next home game.

Jack Stack and Oklahoma Joes are my favorites but I love Bryants too and go there all the time too because for $11 I can get fries & beef sandwich that will be two meals one for lunch and still have a ton of food leftover for dinner.

I notice that TG is still on the main bar above. Time to move on. Get this thing updated. I say with maybe a picture of Haley or maybe Dorsey in a bikini.

Try Rosedale BBQ, Great ribs, Great Fries, Great Ham Sandwiches, I was weaned on Rosedale Sauce. I was away from KC for 12 years and made semi yearly treks back just to get the sauce.

I grew up on Gates and still love it, but my heart is now with Jack Stack. I'm sorry but I have never had a bad meal there and their BBQ is delicious.

Oh I hear that Crane LC's ribs are fantastic. He started opening at 9am on game days used to be closed I think.
Typically gals seem to like going to Arthur Bryants better so thats the rule I usually follow depending on who Im with.

Yeah make sure you get the ribs at LC's - I just ate there for the first time last week....definitely wanted more ribs on my mixed plate....everything else was secondary.

I love Arthur Bryant's and the original is definitely better. Don't know how that works, but its true. I've never been to LC's. I am a HUGE fan of Oklahoma Joe's on 47th and Mission. Just because its in a gas station doesn't mean it isn't great!

Another place (a little farther away) is Bates City BBQ. I grew up around that area and that place was always the highlight of going out to eat. BBQ and KC. It doesn't get any better. Unless its eating BBQ in KC and watching the Chiefs put a beatdown on the Faiders!

Btw, the "original" Bryant's is at 18th and Brooklyn - just down the street from where the old stadium used to be. And don't ask me how I happen to know where the old stadium was . . . in the words of Sgt. Maj. Basil Plumley (Sam Elliot) "If any of you sons of bitches calls me grandpa, I'll kill ya'."

DD I have always thought LC's was better than Bryants and I always like talking to LC he is great. I love the ribs OMG.

Creep is right on about McGonigle's. In addition to Bryant's, I'm also a huge fan of LC's. When you go to LC's make sure you include a sausage or two in your order and get at least a pint of beans. LC's beans rock it out! And don't forget to check out the framed photo of AeroSmith on the wall - autographed by Steven Tyler.

VERY INTERESTING.............

Good grief,,I usually dont leave comments, but when it comes to Chiefs football and food I just can't keep my mouth closed. First of all I have to say that there isnt really any bad BBQ in KC, but if I know I'm not going to be doing any of the actual cooking I'm going to have to go with mcgonigles on 79th and Wardparkway. This place has hands down the best ribs in Kansas City not to mention the fine choice meat selection. I encourage everyone to at least try them once. But take your time while your there and dont take any slab of ribs they offer,,be sure and find the perfect one for you. My love for Kc belongs to Gates, but my stomach belongs to mcgonigles.

Make sure its the original location at 18th and Brooklyn Whir.

I've never eaten Arthur Bryant's. I have only eaten Gates (which I love, especially Boulevard pale ale on tap!) and of course KC Masterpiece ... I wish to try some of the better BBQ in KC, and Arthur Bryant's is the first place I will try.
