Turk McBride Released To Make Room For Wade

by Chiefs

Per Josh Looney at kcchiefs.com, Turk McBride has been released to make room for Bobby Wade, WR.  Another Herm Edwards’ draft pick is released.  I wonder how Tank Tyler feels right now about losing his best buddy?

And we got nothing for him. Nice. Hopefully this will translate into a decent compensational pick or something.

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Lions, Bears, and Jaguars submitted waiver claims for McBride's contract.

Looks like three teams thought Turk was value at his current contract.

Lions did claim him. That didn't take long.

The Detroit News is reporting that the Lions will likely claim McBride off waivers.

That didn't take very long.

I agree with DD in the sense of wasted talent. But we cannot blame our new regime for the past regime's mistakes. Think of what we could of had instead of the picks Bernard Pollard & Turk McBride. My son thinks Pollard was one of the hardest hitting guys in the league, which he was, however that was when he actually made a tackle. I am really just bummed about my delusional thoughts that our defense was going to be the strong side of our team. 501 yards allowed totally took those beliefs away. I am hoping our team magically gels together on both sides of the ball somehow soon, but I hate to say I am ready to swallow a reality pill and except this year for what it truely is, a rebuilding year. Either way, GO CHIEFS!!!!!

OH GOD, NOT TURK! PLEASE ANYONE BUT TURK!

Are you people kidding me - Jesus... Let's see... led the league in... sacks, no... INT's, no... forced fumbles... wait a minute...

Come on people - are we really sitting here pondering about why he was released? This has created so many posts, I figured it would be anonymous that his release wouldn't hurt the team at all - guess I was wrong.

If I took over a business, and it was the worst one in the city, the last thing I would do is keep the employees. Even though the NFL is great entertainment, has the best loyal fans, and creates a ton of revenue...... it's still a business. Let these new guys run the business - we'll get the results soon enough.

I guess I just disagree with everybody labelling him a "bust." You can't call a guy a bust based solely on his rookie season and the fact that he doesn't "fit" with the new defensive scheme. It's especially inappropriate to label any DL a bust after only one season of play. DL's typically take about 3 years to get a level where they can be properly evaluated.

Nearly all teams already have their rosters set for the season. The is main reason that guys who are cut are having a hard time finding jobs. On top of that, the stigma of being cut from a team that is now sitting at 6-27 since the 2007 season surely doesn't help their case a lot regardless of how talented they may actually be.

Over the course of the season, guys from other teams are bound to get hurt, get in trouble, not perform, whatever and so I have pretty good suspicion that players such as Pollard and McBride will get an opportunity to play elsewhere.

Also, keep in mind that guys like Bobby Wade have a job with the Chiefs because they too weren't wanted by their last employer. Food for thought.

Why are some of you acting like we just cut an All Pro defensive lineman? It was Turk freaking McBride. We can all agree that the Chiefs have been terrible over the last few seasons. So why would you be surprised if a mediocre (at best) player from a terrible team gets cut? The point has been made several times but none of these guys are finding jobs elsewhere. That tells you all you need to know.

I really am on board with Pioli and Haleys leadership right now, Im going to wait and see. It really isnt about this year though plenty of fun to be had in 2009.

I still have faith in Haley's leadership..... I hope Bobby Wade makes a great showing on Sunday.... GO CHIEFS!!!

If memory serves, McBride had little if nothing to do with last season's 2-14 record. As I recall, he was on IR for most, if not all, of last season, right?

To bad he could not have learned to play RT he was a big boy! But other than that no big loss

The defense did not suck last year because of Turk McBride. The main problem was lack of talent and veteran leadership among the LBs. McBride did not play LB in college and was not drafted by the Chiefs to play LB. He was drafted as a DL for the 4-3.

Until this team starts putting together a bunch of wins and competes for championships, you can't use words like "great," "progress," or "fixing the problem" to describe these type of moves. At this point, all you really can say about them is that they are change. No, make that drastic change.

Yeah, Tim, I think they can see the line isn't good. The problem is, starting-quality linemen all have jobs right now. This guy is a starting-quality player they could bring in. They swapped a non-starting caliber player for a starting-caliber player. It's a no-brainer.

This year ain't about this year....

I can't remember one game where I yelled out Turk's name, good riddance. Pioli, keep getting rid of the trash, we're getting closer and closer to becoming a contender.

Another genius move from the trinity...

....

Dumb Dumb Dumb Dumb Dumb Dumb Dumb

Why are they releasing defensive players and bringing in no name offensive players. ARRRGGGG

Defence is the problem. Stopping the run is the problem. Our Oline is the problem.... Why can't they not see this? They release our best defensive player and now another decent linebacker. I don't mind them cutting players but you got to fill their holes, not plug others up. It's the lesser of two evils.

DD, I think you're way off here. Make the best with what we've got? Guys like Turk and Pollard played in a system taylor made to fit them and they were not good enough. We made the best with what we had last year and went 2-14. We should remain in the system that best suits our bad players???

This year is about establishing a system and finding out what pieces we have that fit that system. If we waited a year to transition we still wouldn't know that Hali can play it and Turd cannot. They would still have to bring both back to see which one to keep. That is one more evaluation that is over, one more piece of information gathered.

30 players that were Chiefs last year are gone, now 31. TG got a job , of course, but so did one other. Jasen Babin is an Eagle I believe. But that's the only two to this date. Correct me if I'm wrong, please.

You have two years like KC had you scrap everything and start over. NOTHING worked. Im sorry but its difficult for me to argue with not keeping ANYTHING from the last two years. I have no favorite Chiefs player, I only wear jerseys from the past. We are on the right track.

Adam,

As Gump infers, Bradley is a guy who apparently can't keep track of where the sticks are.

im sorry, but no one signed pollard

mcbride, I had high hopes for, he was a BUSTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT

its not about the 3-4

he sucked in the 4-3 too...

its just a fact.

seems like a good guy, but this team has been TERRIBLE on defense...he was a part of that.

I thought he showed some skill at times, but he cant pass rush, hes really a backup in a 4-3....

Chiefs were overmatched and managed to make a game of it, and that's bad???

Adam, No props for Brodie? He did a hell of a job. Different game if the receivers knew where their down markers were.

Absolutlely true, only 1 of the guys we cut is on a roster somewhere, Tony was traded. Pollard still looking for a job. I guess someone can properly evaluate and judge talent, and knows when to cut bait.

Cut Mark Bradley? What? He did a lot more than Turk McBride did Sunday.

McBride is a man without a position in K.C. He's far too slow to be a 3-4 OLB. He might land somewhere, but who knows. Out of the 30 Chiefs who we have moved (traded or cut), only Babin and Gonzalez are on a roster. I think that speaks volumes. If Pollard hasn't yet found another team, the market might not be there for Turk, a lesser talent by far.

But go ahead and jump on the Pioli Trinity for anything and everything, DD and Merls. Keeps the good debate going and things balanced.

Still, you're absolutely nuts if you want to go back to Herm after seeing the direction we're now headed. No way Herm goes up to Baltimore opening week without his QB and best corner and damn near beats B-More. Would have been like 45-6.

I don't think this is a surprise at all. As soon as Wade was cut it was just a matter of time before we picked him up. Turk has been on the list for awhile now so I don't really know what the big deal is.

We're struggling offensively to the point that even a first down is a reason to celebrate. That's not exceptable, and our schedule isn't getting any easier. Something has to be done. I don't know that Wade is that answer, but it is something.

I have no beef with transitioning to the 3-4, just with the apparent urgency involved. Is Pioli unfamiliar with the concept of the hybrid defense?

It also seems to me that we are still lacking the key ingredient of a 3-4; namely, a dominant nose tackle. Given that we are most likely not going to fill that need before the offseason, why not try to make the most of the pieces you've got in the meantime?

Much like Merlin says, I am inclined to believe that Turk will show up on some other team's roster and likely create a productive career for himself there.

Also, why McBride? Why not cut somebody like Mark Bradley? or Dantrell Savage even?

What really amazes me is that Turk is supposed to be the guy that can play anywhere on the line, DT or DE. Wouldn't that make him PERFECT for a 3-4 defense?

I just hope NONE of those teams are called Chargers, Broncos or Raiders!

This is not a shock and DD makes some good points. We had a foundation, and Pioli decided he didn't like the style and is putting in a different foundation. I expect Turk to surface with another team.

The only thing that keeps running through my head is all this wasted talent and all those wasted picks simply because Pioli and Haley want to immediately transition to the 3-4? There has to be a better way.
The only thing I've got to say at this point is that we sure as hell as better win more than 2 games this year or a lot of so-called "smart" guys calling the shots are going to come off looking just arrogant and stupid.
