I Bet Our Chiefs Can Cover

by Chiefs

As a man who has been known to bet, I know a thing or two about the spread. The opening odds on the Chiefs Ravens game are sitting currently, depending upon where you look, between 12.5 and 13 points. Wow! That is a lot of points in the NFL and the odds makers obviously believe that the Chiefs are going to go down in flames against the Ravens defense. (As a side note the New Orleans and Detroit game has the same odds!)

These teams last met in 2006 when the recently departed Steve McNair had a big day in leading the Ravens to a 20-10 victory in Kansas City. However, our beloved Kansas City Chiefs have actually had the upper hand in this series. Our Chiefs are 3-1 all-time against the Ravens with all three of those wins coming in Baltimore. Still, NFL odds makers are expecting a one-sided affair, listing the Ravens as up to 13 point favorites with a total over under set at 36.

Now, I know we are a much different team than the team that won three times in Baltimore, and I am not guaranteeing a win, but I am guaranteeing we cover the spread. Why, because no matter how great the Baltimore Defense is, (or was). The Baltimore Offense does not scare me. In fact the Baltimore offense is a lot like the Chiefs’. They have a good but inexperienced QB, sub-par receivers, and decent running backs. Where the Ravens are clearly better than us is on defense and special teams. That is where this game will be decided, on defense and special teams. I do not believe that their defense or special teams will make a 13 point difference. No matter the score, I feel confident that the Chiefs will cover the spread of 13 points, and since this is the NFL they could possibly win.

Any Thoughts?

Chiefs O vs Ravens D- I kinda heard a glimpse of the gameplan from Haley as we might go more shotgun no huddle on the Ravens to minimize the substitions and get out to a fast start. We need to put points on the board on one of the first two series to keep our offense in rythem. Keep LJ on the field. Once we fall behind 2 scores then LJ is off the field and its over.

Chiefs D vs Ravens O- DJ might not start but he will be a factor in the pass rush. I wouldnt be suprised if we see Hali (DE) and DJ (OLB) overloading a side of the OL to bring the QB pressure. That is a great thing about defense is you can play any fronts you want as long as it gets results.

Chiefs Punter(Coverage Team) vs Ravens (Return Team)-Advantage Chiefs with Colquitt punting he should be a pro- bowler.

Chiefs Return Team vs Ravens Punter- Advantage Ravens. Have not seen anything here that sticks out.

Steelers v Titans,, what a game!!!! I never bet against the Chiefs!!! admittedly I am somewhat disappointed in what I saw during pre-season,,, a few sparks here and there but had higher expectations,,,, all I can say is I still have faith in the team and coach Haley and although it may be somewhat unrealistic I expect a W,,,,,, GO CHIEFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think the Chiefs cover.

But I've been through this offseason-full-of-boundless-optimism crap before. I'm worse than Charlie Brown right before Lucy yanks the ball out from under him.

But I'm usually not obstinate once the season starts. I can easily see the wheels coming off, with lots of errors from players and coach(es). As much as I like Haley, there's things he might not even notice until they're in an actual game. I'd LOVE to be in his shoes on Sunday, but MAN he has a lot of traffic to direct!

Welcome and thanks Shane.smith. Keep posting. We will be here all season long win or lose! GO CHIEFS!!!!!

JoJo sounds like you and I are on the same page.

Just want to say thanks to all of you on this site, as you have all kept me entertained & informed throughout the offseason and the preseason. I am a Chiefs fan through & through and I watched this movie once called" Any given Sunday", I believe we will cover the spread as well and also agree that are new D will be able to handle the Baltimore offense. However, like everyone else, I do fear are offense against a proven stout Baltimore defense. The weakest part of that D is there secondary so if our QB can throw down field (Whoever that is), we have a much better chance on offense. Either way I will LOVE watching my Chiefs on Sunday win or lose! Good luck Chiefs!

I applaud your optimism and also think this game will be closer than expected. The "we have no chance to win" mentality I read / hear is getting pretty old.
