Ryan O'Callaghan, Right Tackle

by Chiefs

Addicts, as you have probably heard, The Chiefs picked up offensive tackle Ryan O’Callaghan on waivers after he was cut by the Patriots.

Via Rotoworld:

O’Callaghan didn’t have a bad camp, but second-round pick Sebastian Vollmer passed him to be New England’s No. 3 offensive tackle. O’Callaghan could probably start for the Chiefs right away.

In my opinion, saying a guy that couldn’t win the 2rd string job for a Patriot team (that doesn’t have a great offensive line) is an potential upgrade to our starting lineup is a damning statement of our talent level at offensive tackle.

Addicts, What do you think?

yeah, my grammer tends to suffer when im ranting.

Im just waiting to see what happens with Pollard. There are a million reasons to why he could of been released, none of which we are aware of. Im just upset they got rid of him thats all. Yes, he isn't the best player out there, but he's young and has shown alot of potential. It just doesn't make sense thats all.

It may down the track, but as of right now, im bored and in need of something to fight for.

Tim, my bad. You are absolutely right about their ages. I'd actually looked that up and just misread it. Although I hope you aren't classifying a 26 year old as old.

As for Pollard, if someone offered something for him or would have, then why hasn't that team signed him yet?
98 tackles means to me he made 98 tackles. It says nothing about the ones that he missed because he failed to wrap up, or was out of position. I did watch the Chiefs last year. There was an overt lack of tackling ability and Pollard was part of the problem. If he wasn't willing to work to fix that, then he's going to be gone.

Lastly, when you quote someone and use quotes to say what they said, then you are supposed to put their exact words inside the quotes. Otherwise it's easy to exaggerate what they actually said.

Great Matt Cassel is waddling around practice now. I really hope they dont throw him to the wolves next Sunday (IE RAY LEWIS)

303chiefs, im pretty sure you just took a shot at me.... you just made yourself one very motivated enemy.

As for Paul... I have no doubt that someone would of offered something for Pollard. I also have no doubt that Pioli rejected that offer. Ie. Thigpen. Next, you question his tackling ability. So having 98 tackles in a cover 2 defense doesnt mean anything to you. Leading all chiefs players in tackles clearly shows he takes "terrible angles" and has "terrible tackling technique." Sure he misses a few tackles every now and then, but if you were watching a chiefs game last year you would notice an over lack of tackling ability. If not for Pollard skills, our season would of been alot worse. Well since he was our best defender statisticly, what does that say about every other player on this roster....

Create competition..... All you herm haters say WHAT! hey adam, how often did herm say that when he brought someone in.... Nuff said.... And the point of this is.... To push the good players to be even better, not to replace them with guys worse than we already have....

Callaghan, is 26, Richardson is 23. Nuff said. Players dont develop on the practice squad. They develop playing the game. Live action against an oppenent. Thank herm for the success of our two young corners. He threw rookies into the starting spot because he knew that was the best way of developing them. He thought he would have a few more years as coach, but was mistaken.

And to everyone else....

Im just giving Haley and Pioli the same respect you gave Herm Edwards. He had the job of totally rebuilding a franchise, i personally would say he was doing a good job but no one gave him time to finish his work. Finish creating a team. Now we have to wait and watch it all over again. More rebuilding, more replacements, new systems that take years to master.

Just giving you guys some warning and perspective. Once those black and white goggles come off, you will see the truth.

And we all now know that McIntosh was cut and Richardson is probably heading to the practice squad. So I can only hope that O'Callahan is better. But is it any real surprise that a Patriot cast off is better than our cast offs?

watched this guy in his past 2 preseason games, looked better than mcintosh/richardson...just needs to lose 20 lbs to be lighter on his feet, but man, he really is a tough RT that can move and seems to play smart. you cant run over him, he just has to work on a speed rush around the edge, 15 lbs to 20 and he will be fine...

Also, NE got a 1st round pick for Seymore, we couldn't get a pack of Winstons for Pollard. What does that tell you? It tells me that they have enough talent to let Seymore go, stash the pick and continue to win. And we were only holding Polard because he was the best out of the mediocre group we had.

We couldn't trade him because nobody wanted him. Wait until after the first week and see if he's still available. He might get picked up then but only then as a backup.

Yes, they do have a mess to clean up. Since Tait left our O-Line has been in decline. We have had draft picks that failed and veterans under performed. Our front office shot itself in the foot time and time again.

Now we have a completely new regime. A new mindset driving our actions. It's sad to say that cast offs from other teams may be better players than what we have, but its true. Remember last year when we were picking up guys off the street literally to fill some holes.

This change has been, and will continue to be painfull. But the system in N.E. has been working to the extent that they have guys they are cutting loose that are better than what we have. They traded Seymore for a 1st rounder for next season. So next year they will have 2 - 1st and 2nd round picks. Even as they are sucessful, they continue to load up for the future. Their system is working, but it didn't happen overnight.

Take solice in the fact the front office is actually doing something. The last few years, at this point, we kind of just had what we had until we absolutely had to get a replacement for an injured player. Then we would just pick some schmo up of a practice squad somewhere, or a guy who wasn't even playing for anybody.

It's easy to forget how poor our front office had performed after the preseason ended. Now we have needed OL help. Last year our D was not good (new low sack record?), they got some help for our D. We have many more holes to fill, be patient.

Good post Paul, everything you said was absolutely correct. Unfortunately this means that it probably flew right over Tim's head.

Tim, I know you're ticked that the Chiefs dropped one of your favorite players in Pollard, but step back and take a breath. Pollard was all big hit or big whiff, and the word out now is they couldn't even get a 7th rounder for him. This regime said they were looking for consistency and the right 53, not the most talented. Wrong angles, bad coverage skills, and poor tackling technique weren't going to get it done and it appears Pollard wasn't taking to learning it another way.
As for "lets “upgrade” our team with more crap veterans….
Lets create competition by bringing in more old guys with limited talent.
Lets not develop our younger guys like barry richardson ..."
I guess you mean the signing of O'Callaghan.
He hardly fits your complaints. He is the same age as Richardson and has shown more talent than him to this point. As for developing the young talent, that still may take place with Richardson. What I've read says they may try to PS him if he clears waivers.
Give Pioli and Haley some time. They had a big mess to clean up.

Uhh, call me stupid, but wouldn't we gladly take even a moderately less successful repeat of New England?

yay.... way to go Pioli.... you surely are a genius among men....

lets feed on the left-overs of new england....

lets "upgrade" our team with more crap veterans....

Lets create competition by bringing in more old guys with limited talent.

Lets not develop our younger guys like barry richardson and bernard pollard so we can be better in the future. Lets just plug up the holes with gaping fluid and hope for the best....

My names pioli and im going to just repeat what i did at new england and hope for the best....

I don't know if it was a matter of misjudging it or just nobody out there wanted to play with us. At least noone of quality that would be an significant improvement.

shooter! Nice to hear from you! I hope things are going well for you. Randy, yes, I am happy that Pioli is bringing more people in. We had a decent amount of turnover last year too. I do wonder what Pioli thought of the line going into camp. Did he misjudge it? It appears so.

I have to say we have a lot of problems . I also have to say that when one is identified it appears that the new management attempts to correct it. I didn't see that much last several years. I think I am going to have to expect a less than full stadium and be happy when its full for at least 2009. As for O"callaghan, he at least makes the o line better than it was last week. Thats saying something....

hey merlin, it goshootergo. greetings from fort polk! hope all is good miss chatting in the chat room! go chiefs!!!!!!!!!!
