I will take the liberty of stating that our main KR/PR is not even on the team yet. Pioli and his scouts are reviewing tape on every kick and punt returner that has played in the preseason on every team and when one of them whom they like fails to make a team, the Chiefs will pick them up.
Here is a list of candidates:
Yamon Figurs (Ravens). He is in danger of losing his job in Baltimore to Chris Carr, Ray Rice and Ladarius Webb. In fact, Baltimore is looking overcrowded as far as the KR/PR job is concerned. Anyone of these players would be a good addition.
Roscoe Parrish (Bills). He is also most likely to be cut. Roscoe has been on the trade block for most of the offseason, earlier this year Adam and I addressed a desire for Parrish as a KR/PR.
Quentin Demps (Eagles). He is losing out to Desean Jackson, Ellis Hobbs and Jeremy Maclin on KR/PR. He is also vying for the second and third string safety positions. Demps could be free real soon.
Buster Davis (Chargers). LSU product Davis has been a first round disappointment for the Chargers. He currently sits number 3, or 4, on the WR depth chart. There have been rumors of trade talk involving him. He is a back up KR/PR to Sproles and Cromartie. It is not likely he comes available, but he would be an attractive option.
Mathew Slater (Patriots). He is no where to be found on the WR depth chart, but currently sits atop the KR chart. The Patriots have other options, and may let him go. Since he has some Pioli history we could see him here if he comes free.
Tom Nelson (Bengals). If you have been watching Hard Knocks with the Bengals, you see this rookie free agent making plays everywhere. He plays safety and very well. He also is a returner. If the Bengals are stupid enough to sever ties with him, the Chiefs should jump all over this guy.
Any Others?
