One of the most valuable trading chips a team can have is the backup QB. With all the rumors flying, it appears that Thigpen is on the auctions block. I like Thiggy, but I think this is the right move for the Chiefs and for Thigpen.
Right now, Thiggy is at a high point in trade value. Now is the time to move him. With a more conventional QB, I would be tempted to hang onto him and wait for a desperate team that lost their QB to pay through the nose for him. Thigpen’s skill set doesn’t really lend to that approach. He is a bit of an unconventional QB who makes many of his best plays during broken plays. He can help another team, but that team needs to get him in soon and not during mid-season.
Pioli asking for a 3rd round pick back seems like a good starting point. It’s high, but not outrageous. Could teams like Jacksonville, Tampa, Carolina or the Ravens pony up a 3rd to get Thiggy? I am not sure, but the more teams in the bidding the better. Personally, I would take a 4th at worst, not the rumored 5th round pick. If I needed to, I would send a 6th round back to get the 3rd round pick back. Failing that, I would keep all four QB’s and look to move one during the season.
OK, Addicts, how do you see Thigpen’s trade value? If you can’t trade a QB, would you carry all four QB’s?
