Should We Stick With Connor Barth?

by Chiefs

With the long awaited draft starting tomorrow, one question should be asked: Will the Chiefs draft a kicker? With all the holes that our 2-14 team has, and with only 7 current picks, is it worth it?

Connor Barth did well last year after replacing Nick Novak. He hit 83.3% of his field goals. He was 24/24 on extra points; 6/6 between 20-29 yards; 3/4 between 30 to 39 yards; 1/1 between 40 to 49 yards, and 0/1 over 50 yards. His worst performance came in one game with the Chargers in week 15 where he missed the two aforementioned field goals. Unfortunately we lost that game by one point. With the exception of that one game, he did very well. But was it well enough to keep the Chiefs from selecting a kicker in tomorrow’s draft?

What do you think? Is Connor Barth our future? Do we draft a kicker? Do we sign a street free agent?

Connor Barth is a good enough kicker. I love to see teams bring in 3 to 4 kickers each year for competition, though. Kicker is not a big enough impact spot to draft one (case in point: Justin Medlock). Keep Barth and whoever else we brought in and let em go for it.

Kickers are available as undrafted FA or off the street. They seem to take a few years to bounce around anyway. Barth is fine with me but continue to look at others in case we need them. It was mentioned above about the 2010 first rounder being traded. I say we keep Atlanta's 2010 and trade the Chiefs 2010 to get multiple picks in the late first/second round. I hope we pick later than Atlanta next year but if that is the case great other wise we will be looking to trade back in the draft again next year. My guess would be chiefs would pick early/mid first and Atlanta mid/late first round next year. Go for the later pick and if we make a Miami turnaround Atlanta would have to flop to put us in a bad spot anyway.

1-connor barth is a very solid option at kicker
2-the chiefs need to use every pick possible to help out the other positions. when we get to the late rounds we might as well take position players in order to help special teams/steal a sleeper pick

HaHa 102win! It was just a slow topic day so I thought I would throw this on here to get some discussion going. Have a great weekend everyone. Go Chiefs!

Sorry, just thought this would be a busy day on here. It was a valid question- No offense meant.

Keep Barth! He is only going to get better as he gets more confidence. I know he missed a couple field goals last year we really could have used, but I like the kid and I hope he's the real deal.

Same here, 102win. Maybe you and I just need to take a break. I hate to think I'll be grading papers tomorrow, with the NFL draft going in the background. How sad! Much better to check the wires at the end of the day.

We need some more topics, it is the day before the draft and were talking "kickers....kickers....don't talk to me about kickers........we would be lucky to win a game". (playoffs/kickers)lol

Really it is the day before the draft and crickets are all I hear!!

To me, kicker is, at best, an afterthought. Get an offense that can score touchdowns and/or set up higher probability FG tries. Get a D that keeps opposing O outside of FG range. Then do the best you can with what's left over for a kicker.

We should stick with Conner Barth. I think we are not through with the Tony trade I think we are going to trade the 2010 for a 2009.

We have to bring in someone. If there's somebody worth a 7th round pick the go for it. Unless there's a better project.
