Rumor: Glenn Dorsey To Falcons?

by Rumors

I just got a tip that on FOX Sports Radio they are reporting that Glenn Dorsey could also be going to the Atlanta Falcons, possibly as part of the Tony Gonzalez deal. We’ve seen something like this before (Vrabel-Cassel trade) from the Chiefs, so it wouldn’t be unprecedented for GM Scott Pioli. For now this is strictly a rumor, but one I felt was worthy of passing along.

$15-20 mill? *sigh* I wonder how much of that was shifted to Atlanta? redbeard asked about this elsewhere. But when I hear the figure, knowing Tony, he's going to get his, or he ain't signin'.

Though it seems Nicks might be overweight and out of shape at the moment.

I've decided that Tyson Jackson and either Hakeem Nicks or Kenny Britt would be a great draft day present. I don't know how they pull it off, but it's possible. Nicks and Britt both wore #88 in college, and they're both big targets. Not exactly a replacement Tony G, but some much needed weaponry for Matt C.

Well, we have plenty of cap space now, and if Dorsey left along with Tony's money we would be fine.Tony's $ + Dorsey's $ + #3$= Peppers$

On the hook for the remainder of his guaranteed money. Like 15-20 million range i think

This is a major longshot, the cap hit the chiefs would get is way too high. I'm shocked no one has mentioned this already.

At 6 foot 6? Reminds you of Boldin? Huh. I like big 'n' tall, especially after losing Tony G, but I agree with your TE thinking. I feel that the short-term missing piece in the passing game is SPEED. College WRs, and to a lesser extent, Pro WRs, have, for years, enjoyed feasting on smaller CBs. That's well and good against a lot of teams, but you need to make the long ball a legit threat, and speed (farther down in draft or in FA) does more for less, than this year's crop of top WRs, IMO, who seem to be a bunch of guys who just sky over their opposition.

Yeah, maybe he CAN catch a high percentage of contested passes, and he WAS dominant against pint-sized college corners, but what good is that if EVERY pass is contested, when he faces the pros? Get some real speed and threaten to play pitch-and-catch if it isn't respected.

I just wish I had kept more film on Albert. My memory is of a player who was a teensy bit slow-footed, and left tackle is one position where truly dominant play is make-or-break.

But if you're RIGHT about Albert, and it ain't broke, the rest of what you say makes total sense, especially with such excellent TE choices - somebody who'll actually do some good (blocking) on the RT's right shoulder.

Seems like most of the attention is for Tony G-type TEs, and the kinds that _I_ like WILL be there at #90. I found myself disappointed at the large number of TEs coming out who can't block, but enthused at all the hype for these 2-seater sports cars, when you really need a truck! Heh. Once Toyota went to that independent front suspension, their trucks were pretty nimble!

Also, anyone wonder why the Tony trade was made public before the draft. It has to be part of a bigger deal. KC, nor Atlanta would want anyone to know that their needs have changed prior to the draft. The 2nd rounder is next year!!!!! This is the start of something big!!

less than 36 hours to go

hmills,
I hate to compare anyone to you know who, but English reminds me of you know who. If he played at a large school he would be in the top 5-6 in the first. I would keep Albert @ LT, "if it is not broke-don't fix it", therefore Meredith would be perfect for RT in the late second. TE's are DEEP in this draft class, I think either Nelsen,Coffman or Ingram will be there, I would like any of them. SS Chung and G Robinson would be great picks-they both are rated #1 @ their positions. Sleeper in this mock is Ramses Barden, raw but reminds me of Boldin.

I also would explore Jamal Charles as a Slot WR

Liked this quote from Pioli, today:

PIOLI: “The pick that is the 2010 pick right now is, as we sit here, could very well be a pick that’s a second round in 2010 but that pick, as you all know can be used in a lot of different ways and can somehow end up being a pick that’s used in the draft this year. So, in terms of us continuing to bring in players and build a roster with players it may be that pick will be the Falcons pick next year or it may be a different pick this year or several picks.”

mizzou60: That's more the way I was thinking before today's rumors came out.

I see Dorsey, and I see a DT-sized guy with a burst. Drew a double-team all day long, it seemed to me. Seems natural that he'd be a prototypical kind of 3-4 DE. I know I was looking forward to seeing what he could do playing next to a true NT, with another wide-body on the other side of THAT. Likely we'd see those 3 guys tying up more offensive players than any 3 guys the Chiefs had on the line last season.

Absolutely rediculous. There is no reason to think Dorsey couldn't perform in the 3-4. System or not, a top 5 pick should be able to adapt in whatever system he needs to. Thats what good football players do. And lets not forget all that "Best pure football player in the draft" talk last year.

I don't care who is calling the shots in this new regime, if the Chiefs are already willing to give up on Dorsey, I will already be willing to give up on the "Pioli" way. There is just way too much invested into Dorsey. The move would cripple the franchise for years, and we would no doubt be looking for new personell in another couple of years.

I guess it hinges on how effective Dorsey scouts as a 3-4 DE, and he may NOT.

Like the trade-down, although I get a lump in my throat at passing up a franchise LOT, and I wonder just how much good you can really do with a #59 pick at OT.

Also, there are names on the D-Line that I'd probably want to take with the #24 before I'd go LB with English. You think Shawn Nelson will be there at #90? Didn't Kevin Boss teach anybody anything about championship TE play?

Don't know much about Jamon Meredith, but, as you undoubtedly know by my rants, I'd either go HIGH for franchise OT and use the #59 pick where it were more likely to be more productive (LB, for instance). But #42 and #55 for interior line seems spot-on.

Having said all that - much respect for your having put together a mock for our perusal (and critique).

This is a good trade, and makes complete sense. That's why we got the 2nd rounder next year and not this year, because they are giving us their first and third this year. If we still trade the #3 pick, and with Waters and Johnson still as bait, we could end up with a glut of picks and a completely revamped organization by the end of the draft.

The Dorsey thing really threw me, I have been wanting to send Tony and Hali. If we got Peppers, and Atlanta's 1st, 2nd,3rd and another second I would be happy. So Carolina would only get #3.
Waters to Buafflo for #42. Hali to Tampa for their #81.

P--E--P--P--E--R--S &
R1 #24 LB Larry English-N. Illinois
R2 #42 C Max Unger-Oregon
R2 #55 OG Duke Robinson-Oklahoma
R2 #59 OT Jamon Meredith-S. Carolina
R3 #67 SS Patrick Chung-Oregon
R3 #81 DT Dorell Scott-Clemson
R3 #90 TE Shawn Nelsen-S. Miss
R4 #102 WR Ramses Barden-Cal Poly
R5 #139 RB Kory Sheets-Purdue
R6 #175 CB Greg Toler-St Paul's
R7 #212 QB Nathan Brown-C. Arkansas
R7 #256 DT Khalif Mitchell-E. Carolina

They've had the one minicamp. Not nearly enough to tell you if a 4-3 DT will pan out as a 3-4 DE. But might be enough to convince you that he won't be a good fit. When I've been hearing "Dorsey-to-so-and-so" these past few days/weeks, I've discounted it. But it seems to be gaining momentum.

Fact is, there IS quality in this draft for a perennially good-to-excellent front 3 for the 3-4. I'm hearing more and more about Tyson Jackson maybe going as high as our #3!

Master: I personally would like to keep Thigpen around.

NO thats what the rumor is going around at AP go over there and check it out

cassel, are you just stirring up things?

Wouldnt it just be great if we could somehow make some moves around in the draft and pick at #11 and take tyson jackson right infront of Denver!!!

I like Dorsey, think he has good motor good leverage and is smart but a first second and third you have to make that move if you are Pioli/Haley.

Those guys want their guys not Harms. If we do get another first from atlanta could that end up turning into Boldin for our #3 and third rounder??? it would essentially be like trading Dorsey for Boldin

I think Dorsey could be a beast, but not in a 3-4. Honestly, I'm disappointed they decided to move to a 3-4 and not stay in a 4-3 which would have best utilized his talents. If the Chiefs can get Atlanta's 1st and 2nd round picks for Dorsey I'd be okay with it. We'd get a chance to obtain a DE that is better suited for a 3-4 and Dorsey would get a chance to showcase his talents in a 4-3 in Atlanta.

where the hell is this rumor posted?

And feel free to drop links in here of you have them!

where you see that espn news was it online or tv

ESPN News is reporting another rumor that there is a 3 way trade with Carolina, Atlanta and KC where Atlanta gets Dorsey, and somehow we get Peppers?
There is also reports that KC is getting 2 more 2nd round picks somehow? Just rumors...but MAN!

It would be smarter to move Dorsey and Thigpen to the Buccaneers for 2 1st rounders this year and next. Makes more sense. Plus the Bucks suck more giving us better 2010 picks.

Damn yeh the reort i guess said atlanta would give us thier 1,2,3 this year for dorsey

Makes since. Maybe we are getting next years #2 for Gonzo, becuase we are getting Falcons #1 this year for Dorsey. Maybe. Rumor mongering at its finest.

No way we only get Atlanta's first for Dorsey. You are talking about a top 5 pick. If anything we get Atlanta's 1st and 2nd or 3rd this year for him.

That would be great. Then Tony can look forward to "five to six years of competing for championships."
