The Eagles “might have nosed ahead” of the Falcons in the Tony Gonzalez trade talks, according to SI.com’s Don Banks.
Philly is “thought” to be offering a third-round pick, but KC still wants a second-rounder. Banks says the Chiefs may fear upsetting their fan base by lowering their demands. Gonzo may not fit new coach Todd Haley’s offense, however, and the fans will be just fine if the rookie helps K.C. win games.
Maybe Tony G and L.J. for their first-round pick, number 21 overall? What do you think?

Send them packing! We all loved Neil Smith to and was torqued when he left but got over it!
If they have a me me me attitude then bye bye!
Man am i gonna get slammed for those words!
Bring it on!!!!!
We would have to send them our third-rounder for sure and maybe another conditional pick. Teams do not like parting with first-rounders, but never say never.
If this happens and we still have the 3rd pick this year, we may as well start talking to crabs people now…lol as we dont have the power to then score without another top reciever
I say we pull the trigger on this deal, draft Crabtree at #3 and get a linebacker at #21.
No way do we give a 3rd round and those 2 for a 1st round. I could see those 2 and a conditional, but they wouldn’t take that more than likely.
I say we keep em and…
Trade Dorsey, Thigpen, (Hali or McBride) to the Buccaneers for their 1st in 09, Sears, 1st and 2nd in 2010.
Stick that in your pipe and smoke it. Haha.
Take the pick and send LJ and Gonzo packing. We can get Tyson Jackson and another LB later in the draft.
I might be talked into the trade of both of them for a first rounder, but I won’t be talked into trading Tony for a third.
Sorry guys. The Eagles have ZERO interest in LJ. They have a serious man-crush on Gonzo, but a second might be too much.
I’d take a third for Tony. We only gave up a second for Cassel.
I would much rather see Tony an Eagle than a Falcon. But not for a 3rd. Don’t know if Philly will give up their 1st, but if there’s a way to make it work to our benefit, I say go for it. Hopefully Little Johnson goes too. Finally get the welcome he deserves. If their fans complain about McNabb every year, just wait until LJ gets there! Possible scenerio: Tony, LJ, and Waters with a conditional or a later round pick for their 1st and 3rd…okay, a 3rd is REALLY reaching, but I can dream too.
Scott: What about Brian Waters and Gonzo for the number one?
Is anyone concerned about how are offense works without Gonzo? Maybe part of me wants him to stay here his whole career, but more so, without Gonzo, and a running game, where does # 7 go with the ball? D Bowe will be drawing double teams without Gonzo.
Haley’s past offenses have not utilized TE very much. (I am sure if GONZO stayed we would utilize him). Cottam would be a good TE for Haley.
I think GONZO and WATERS are gone. They weren’t at camp and that does not seem to fly well with Haley and Pioli. They have said over and over again that they want players who want to be KC Chiefs. That is also why I think LJ will stay, unless some great offer comes, which probably wont happen, LJ is staying. Waters and Gonzo are gone. I am going to miss Tony.
I have 2 questions that maybe somebody can give me a little more insight on.
1. Should LJ go, there’s a good chance Edgerin James will be let go from AZ. Would he be a “good” gap fill until next year? I know he’s on the decline and not the player he once was, just curious.
2. If, by some act of God, we could squeeze out a few more picks in the earlier rounds (rounds 2&3), what about Chase Coffman? I read Whitless Whitlock’s article today, and I RARELY, RARELY ever agree with anything he says. But this time I actually did. I’m a Tiger fan and Coffman (minus the spread scheme and blocking, which he will have to learn), has hands of King Midas gold. Every game he played there were 2 or 3 highlight catches. And at 6′6 245 he can definately get open. The only other tight-end I’ve ever seen make as many consistantly spectacular catches is Tony Gonzales.
Now, with that said, and with him being the developemental TE he is, could Cottam handle the blocking end while he learns? Would he even be a fit in Haley’s offense? Or should he even be considered given our other glaring needs? Just some thoughts I had should TG go.
Jeremy, I am aware of that, but I also think that its partially Chan’s offense and use him or not, he’s the only pro bowl weapon we have.
Trade tony to the eagles for thier second
Trade waters and the third to buffalo for 11, 28 and 42
Trading Tony G to the Eagles for a third would suck. There is no third round guy who will have as much of a positive impact on our football team, on the field and with the younger guys, like Tony G would. Obviously Tony G would still play his heart out if we kept him, as he showed last year. And besides, who’s to say we trade him and he actually gets a ring? If he sticks around here for a few years, who knows, he may have as good a chance as any, and he could retire with the team that drafted him, which is so rare these days. Maybe the worst part, we’d all have to watch Tony G shred our defense in week three this year.
Now if we got a 2nd from Atl, I’d still be disappointed, but I could get over it much easier. We would have a more promising player and also we wouldn’t have to play against him unless we met in the postseason or he plays for another four years.
Jeremy – The Eagles got the O-lineman they needed with Jason Peters, so I say no to Waters. At this point it will be difficult to pry the 21st pick from them.
However, they wanted Gonzo badly at the ‘08 trade deadline and if Carl would’ve taken their offer, he’d be an Eagle. Well, they still want him and with DMac nearing the end, they are in “win now” mode. They have a young, developing tight end in Brent Celek, so I wouldn’t be shocked if they gave up a second-round pick to land Tony for a couple years, rather than draft another tight end.
Buffalo does have lots of picks to move up. Im pretty sure they still need a LT they may all be gone by 11 the experts say they like Pettigrew and the Falcons may very well take him at 24 so he isnt dropping to 28. Buffalo may feel they get left in the dark on both. If they do want a TE and LT bad enough maybe they will take #3 to grab likely Monroe and Tony G for 11,28,42???? maybe throw in our 3rd if we have to???
Buffalo just seems to me a team that wants to win now after aquiring TO and Tony would be perfect target for edwards.
Also if the Eagles want Tony they better have to give up their 2nd for him they are in the last third of the 2nd anyways. They would get First round talent for damn near a third rounder
Really, you think we could get a 1st? WOW. Not even close. If the Eagles are having a hard time giving away their 2nd, you think LJ or Waters can push them over the edge and give away their 1st. HA this post is laughable.
the lions have it appears signed a conditional contract with Curry…If stafford doesnt sign a contract with them for the same or less, the Detoit lions will sign Curry as the 1st pick this year
I’d take a 3rd-rounder, plus Philly’s two first-round picks, in return for our #3. Philly gets a TE and the left tackle they need. oops! Oh yeah. Heh.
Ideal for KC in any trade-for-tony scenario would be the trade-down that KC wants! Peters takes Philly out of THAT mix, but I can see Tony being a huge inducement to a team debating the trade-up, should Detroit behave as stupidly as everyone expects, and take Stafford or Curry.
Love the rumor-mill.
Watching NFL Network this evening, I’m reminded that these pundits really know talent but they don’t understand team.
Anyhoo, I just wanted to point out that in all the “What if”s in this thread, none examine scenarios that include the trade-down the Chiefs want.
Maybe look at the situation more from a “teams that could use Tony and are sitting on the fence with regard to trading-up” direction. All the discussion has been about teams that might want to trade up exclusive of teams that might want Tony.

Quazzimotto JAMES DIDNT NEED TO BE CUT he retired already…
as hmills110 requested Arizona would like both tonyg and LJ, as they have boldin who wants out, and they are down to one RB from last year.
make the trade for them and switch first rounders…
not sure what the exact draft spots equal this trade out but it works for both teams.
boldin wants 10 mill a year for four, with his yac he draws attention.
BOWEFAN,,, what the hell is wrong with you to lump TG and LJ in the same crap pile of “me me” player’s??? LJ absolutely!! but Tony??? come on man!! but hey,, I think you all ready knew this…..
I say let Tony go,,, oh he will be greatly missed and he will be leaving some big shoes to fill ,,, but it’s obvious that Tony would like to move on and as far as I’m concerned he deserves to get his way,,,,needless to say I would much rather see us get a late 2nd as a 3rd,,,,,, now LJ on the other hand I could care less,,, I don’t see him ever being beneficial to the TEAM,,, trade him for a box of rocks,,, I don’t care………….
This sortof reminds me of the Surtain trade a few years back. Carl low balled it with a 4th, and even though he was a tough negotiator, he eventually budged and pulled the trigger on the trade for the second rounder. I think that pick was used for Channing Crowder, who would help right now, but I digress. When you want a player bad enough, and we did at that point with Surtain, a second is possible. The next couple of days leading up to the draft should be interesting.
In short, I say nothing less than a 2nd rounder for possibly (if not definitely) the best player in history at his position. His work ethic in training has kept him in tip-top condition, despite his age. This is the best time to trade him and get something of tangeable value. He was uncoverable last year even though Thigpen locked on to him nearly every play.
Chiefs best option: Send Waters,#3,#175 and a third next year to Buafflo for their #11,#28,#42 and #121. Send Tony,Brodie and Hali to Atlanta for #24…. Trade #28 to New England for #47 and #58.
