Trade With Eagles Now Unlikely

by Chiefs

FOXSports.com’s Jay Glazer reports the Eagles have acquired LT Jason Peters from the Bills in exchange for the 28th overall pick, a second-day draft pick, and a late-round pick in 2010.

This coming just three days after Bills COO Russ Brandon expressed confidence that his All-Pro tackle would remain in Buffalo. The Bills had, however, been hesitant to meet Peters’ asking price, which would make him the highest paid offensive lineman in the league. Peters will slide into left tackle in Philly, with Stacy Andrews moving to right tackle. The Eagles can now concentrate on another area of need with the 21st overall pick in the first round.

It seems the Chiefs may have lost an OT trading partner. Would we have taken what the Eagles gave for our number three pick? Could they still make a run for Crabtree?

You think McBride can transition to LB, because that's what he's doing in minicamp (along with Hali)? Or just that Hali would seem of more value to Buff?

Anyway, interesting projection. Not sure about Jackson that high up. You don't think that's a reach? Otherwise, you're much more aware of college talent than I am! You think Nelson will still be there @ 102? Isn't he a block-first kind of TE (which is my kind, btw).

I'm more aggressive about OT than you are. But maybe Albert's the answer. What about C?

I would send Buafflo Hali and our #3, for #11,#28,#42, and #75.
WE DRAFT:

#11 DE Tyson Jackson-LSU
#28 LB Larry English-N. Illinois
#42 OT William Beatty-Conn
#67 OG Duke Robinson-Oklahoma
#75 WR Louis Murphy-Florida
#102 TE Shawn Nelson-S. Miss
#139 RB Kory Sheets-Purdue
#175 CB Jerraud Powers-Auburn

Most of MY figurin' has been based on Matthew Stafford going #1 to Detroit. But if I'M Detroit, I either trade down or go after OL. Same for St. Louis. In THAT scenario, Chiefs go for Andre Smith? Great prospect, but more bang for the buck farther down in OL, at that point.

After reaching for T.O. already, and in DIRE need of protection for Trent Edwards, Bills might just be desperate enough to go for the sure thing, which Jason Smith and Eugene Monroe represent. Might be that there'll be a lot of last-minute shuffling take place, depending on whether or not Detroit takes Stafford. If they DO, then Smith or Monroe are 100% within reach of the #3 pick. If they do NOT, then both Stafford and Sanchez are within reach of the #3.

Chief that does sound good but who would they want from our number 3 spot...thats the question?

I really this opens up the Bills as a prime trading partner. They have traded away the entire left side of their OL. Will they gamble on having Oher take over for a Pro Bowl guy? Pair their #11 & #28, as well as a 3rd and we can run with it. There is a ton of OLB/DE quality at the #11 pick, and we can grab plenty of value at the at RT/OLB/C/WR.

this year we can grab some possable o-lineman late... as we did with shields and zott and lutz

I know I talk about replacing great talent with great talent, but the only o-line worth top picks are left tackles, and even I dont like semi potential left tackles in the first round...

I would love a third rounder guard this year as we have plenty who fit that spot draft wise, but without a number two...I dont see it

A tall corner wouldnt be bad, lol

Slodawg,

I'm not sure if you know this, but the Chiefs drafted a LT with the 15th pick in the draft last year.

There's not a player at #3 that's going to make us a winning team in 09 but there is a player who would add to the time our QB has to see what's available. Shouldn't that count for something? Fewer picks and the ability to control the ball late. Rotten logs are fine but there are probably more failures found under rotten logs than gems. The games are won with line play and a tackle at 3 gives us more toward completion than a LB will do for the D. Curry won't help us control the ball and the game late. The best value for the pick there with our pick-up of a QB is the tackle position. It's not sexy...just fundamentally sound. Dazzle us with the later picks please but don't gamble with the mortgage money (QB). We didn't have many sacks last year but we can cut down on the ones we give up. The times we couldn't make a first down last year I'm sure contributed to our record (?). Or is it just me...

The trade was never that likely. The math didn't work. This does take any possibility away.

It was unlikely we would have had a deal with the Eagles before today's trade. There hasn't been a deal involving teams in the top seven since 2005. That deal involved a team jumping from four to five. You just don't see teams jumping into the top five anymore because of the cost in draft picks and guaranteed money to an unprove rookie.

The Bills need some O-Line so after the lost of Jason Peters and Derrick Dockery they might and move up in the draft and take who ever there? For are 3rd pick and there 11th pick plus what they got from the Eagles and maybe throw in a 2nd if we could or a 3rd. But anything can happen on Draft day.
