AADQ: Chiefs Feeling Boldin?

by AADQ

So the news has hit the Intertwebs that Anquan Boldin wouldn’t mind playing for the Chiefs. The price for the Cardinals is apparently a first and a third. I wonder if the No. 3 pick and a 2010 conditional would get it done (high third, low fifth)? If so, I would pull the trigger. As much as I love Crabtree, Boldin has proven that he is a Pro Bowl player and a tough-as-nails one at that.

This would also clear the way for us to trade Tony Gonzalez if we wanted to in exchange for second-rounder, where we could snag a linebacker. After all, one fundamental belief I have is that teams overvalue their draft picks because they believe they can assess talent better than they truly can. Definitely food for thought.

Addicts, would you trade our firt-rounder and change for Anquan Boldin?

Cmon now Redbeard, Carl went with Grbac after Gannon was proven a winner... er. Nevermind.

102win: Agree on the needs, but don't have enough guts to stick my neck out on what player in what round. Appreciate the time you have put into this. When the time comes, I'd expect there'll be an awareness of needs, but a bias toward picking the most likely starter over need.

then you think he liked green all the time...lol
as a star he wanted green right...no he played green.

and he didnt wish to win

all you need to do is look at our 13 and 3 season...when we had a shot to go all the way, and he passes on T.O.

nobody would have cared if it killed us the next year... that one year that one player would have done it.

the last time we played in a play off game for christs sake he SAT DUNN our run blocker...lmfao and for what to keep a QB he cut before the next season

he cut players left and right for asking for money
even richardson...

he didnt attempt to sign jarrod while siginging a RB without an o-line

and BTW again people reaching for a player is only a reach when it isnt the player you want

redbeard: I didn't ever think Peterson didn't want to win. I just always thought he misunderstood the proper progression to playoff success, reaching for players.

I didn't question motives. Just thought they were heavy-handed, played favorites, and were a bit clumsy in their dealings. Too many reaches. Shortchanging key players, because they were too married to certain star players.

NO WAY. Wr has to be 4th or 5th on our needs list.
3-4 DE
OLB
C or Guard
OT
RB Maybe?
TE Maybe?
WR

mills , managment has been a hidden problem from day one with carl peterson, I give credit to the players for being profesional for so long.

but after 15 years they started coming out strong with how they actually felt about what was happening behind the closed doors.

the office side of things will now becom strong as it once was.

even great players wont stay with a front office that doesnt wish to win, and only wants to make money

I'd kinda like to see Tamba Hali move to OLB. I've always liked his motor, and felt that he'd've made a better 3-4 LB than an undersized DE. Let the linemen be linemen! Spread those DT's the Chiefs already have (plus Ron Brace, maybe?) across the middle, and let last year's DEs fight it out amongst themselves to play LB. Throw Cushing or Maulaga or Sintim or Matthews or... into the mix. Hali, in particular, is one that could be a monster LB, instead of having Cunningham try to make a DE out of him (like he did to Derrick Thomas).

Glad to see Cunningham gone. Liked him for a time. Got turned off when he was HC, and then when they did that HBO special "Hard Knocks," I realized what idiots the Chiefs were, and no WONDER guys wanted out!

I'm a DB fanatic, myself, especially in an era where everyone's driving themselves crazy to find great defensive ends, and figure out a way to play zone against physically dominant WRs. I'd rather attack the problem at its source and just stock up on big, physical DBs.

Granted, Flowers made quite an impression as a rookie, but I sure would like to get a look at Malcom Jenkins at FS, and coming up to play corner, time to time. If the Chiefs could just cut the number of hats devoted to coverage on every down, their problems with pressure on the QB would evaporate!

Other comment Madden made was about Pittsburgh running an "inverted Cover-2," with Polamalu jamming at the line, and the corner playing deep behind him. I've talked about this sort of thing a number of times, but didn't realize that great defenses were running it, time to time. Makes a lot of sense, especially as changeup.

kcrobb: I think that's fairly optimistic, but I do think the best deals for Pioli might be the last-minute deals made by desperate teams, and if Arizona misunderstands their lack of problems at RB, Larry Johnson might make sense to them.

Agree, redbeard. Like the comments, here. Better medium, too. Congrats to the mgmt.

Sudden's first comment made sense to me. IF the Chiefs trade down, and obtain another pick to play with, a late 1st-rounder for Boldin begins to look more attractive.

But maybe the Cards would be interested in Larry Johnson at RB? Wouldn't that be somethin'? Ain't holdin' my breath on THAT one, but...

Watched pieces of the last SB, today. Couple of Madden's comments stand out. He mentioned Haley going to the RB in the flat to punish Pittsburgh's scheme to stop Fitzgerald. What struck me wasn't that he was doing it, but how LONG it took him to exploit it, and finally start catching Pittsburgh wrong-footed.

That kind of failure to see what's being given up DOES tend to make WRs who want to win start raisin' a ruckus. I think that's a big part of Randy Moss's maturation - finally on a team that understands winning.

if boldin isn't traded by draft day then i think the chiefs could get him for their 4th rd pk and lj, as long as the cards can renegoiate larrys contract. i think they should consider trading brian waters, tamba hali, brodie croyle and next years 2 for the 20th pick.

a great bunch of output, nicely thought out...

Trading the #3 pick for Boldin might be the worst trade of all time. If Pioli did that I would hope an angry mob would make their way to Arrowhead to call for his job.

Not to mention the checkered past between Haley and Boldin. Pioli has also said he does not like players who think they run the league and think they can demand trades all willy nilly. It's not going to happen.

I think if Bowe had Kurt Warner throwing him the ball he would be similar but better than Boldin. He is big and tough and makes some really unbelievable catches. On that note, we don't need another Dwayne Bowe. Espessially for a #3 pick......that would be insane.

Oh yeah that second rounder also included an Established veteran LB in Vrabel that will help bring along Curry ;)

Well i guarantee we dont overpay for Quan if we target him. Pioli is the same guy that traded i believe a third rounder for Randy Moss and than just traded a second rounder for a potential Franchise QB so i dont believe we'll be giving up a first and third for Boldin

Quan is tough, a great receiver, and has all the upside in the world as receiver. And we should NOT try to take him! Why is he on the market? Because he's a whiner. Because he's not happy being on a legit contending team that WANTS him. Because he feels "unappreciated" being number 2. He makes big money. Is the other half of one of the most talented tandoms ever. Had a shot at the Crown because of that. AND he's still whining to the point where AZ has decided to put him on the block?

This guy is a talented player who's established himself as among the elite. But you know who else has done that? TO, Ocho Cinco, Larry "the stooge" has a little Johnson and takes it out on women. We already have an over-priced whiner on the team. Quan is good, but not worth the price, or the trouble he could/can potentially cause in the locker-room. No way we take him.

Yep I am an Idiot for forgetting that we don't have a 2nd, but I stand by the rest of my comment. How about our 3rd this year and a pick or player to be named later??

Well. This idiot knows that the Chiefs don't currently have a 2nd round pick. Boldin would be great, but the idiocy in my mind would be trading a 1st and a 3rd and starting the draft in round four. Not gonna happen.

First of all, anyone who doesn't want Quan is an Idiot. It's how we would get him that matters. How about we draft whoever falls to us at #3 such as Jason Smith or Curry? I don't want any player if the team trading him wants ransom money. I wouldn't mind offering our 2nd round pick ONLY for Quan because that is a very high 2nd and to me is about what AZ should get for him.

And I seriously doubt the Cards would be interested in Tony. Their offense hasn't used the TE much and it's not because they don't trust the ones they have.

Agree w/DD. As sexy and wonderful as Crabtree is (pause), we have more important needs. Right now we've got two good-to-great receivers (tony and bowe) and Bradley has shown he can make plays. Engram's going to be solid out of the slot if healthy, and Copper's shown some wheels in the past.

Am I missing something? I give our WRs right now a B, and our defense a big-ass D plus -- and that's mostly on potential in the secondary.

Boldin makes no sense at that price. And I'd rather hang on to the best TE in the game, assuming Haley's gonna use him, than trade for the second best WR in Arizona.

the guy above me is an idiot, but Tony Gonzalez and the chiefs third for Anquan Boldin seems right. The Cards wouldnt make trade for the third pick straight up because theres nothing to gain from it. Cards wanna win now while Kurt Warner still around so a Boldin-Crabtree swap wouldnt work for them.

I think we should trade the third and and tony for anquan boldin, karlos dansby, and there late 1st

I would not trade our first round (#3) pick and change for Anquan. Anquan is 28. He has probably three really good years left on him. A #3 pick would have at least 9 to 10 good years on him. The number #3 pick is better for our future than Boldin.

This trade is not going to happen. I predict that the only trade that will be made with our number three pick will be to trade down in the first round and pick up additional picks in later rounds.

Nope - there is no way I would use a 1st round pick to get somebody who would not add any dimension to our offense. The kind of receiver we need is somebody who can stretch the field. I like the Quan, but he simply is not that guy. Nor is Crabtree, another guy I like, for that matter.

As long as we still have that #3 pick on draft day, one way or another it will be spent on defense. Anyone holding out hope for some other result is setting themself up for a let down.

I think a better question would be, if given the opportunity, should we trade away our 1st pick for a guy like Julius Peppers? That, to me, is a no brainer.

I don't think the Boldin deal will go through the Cards starting asking price is a first and third round and teams will outbid each other. It does however sound like the Seahawks are set on Sanchez so the Chiefs pick becomes more valuable to the Jets, Broncos, 49ers etc. If the Seahawks were to swap picks with us and give us there 2nd round pick we could still get Crabtree and pick up a linebacker with the 2nd round pick. This week leading up the the draft will certainly be interesting.

I think if we can trade down first and then use the later first round pick to pick up Quan, and have an additional second or third left, that would be ideal.
