Gonzalez To The Falcons?

by Rumors

This is just a rumor, but Michael Lombardi of NFL.com is reporting that Tony Gonzalez has “moved his stuff out of his locker expecting something to happen.” He thinks that the trade to Atlanta is “80 percent certain.” I hope he is wrong :-( . I love Tony.

Addicts, sound off on Tony G potentially heading to Atlanta for a second-rounder…

Really? So you're being part of 13-3 team does not qualify as a shot. I believe a lot of people would beg to differ.

I wouldn't say being on a team that has never won a playoff game constitutes having your shot at a Super Bowl.

This is pretty much a non-issue for me. I love Tony and would love to see him stay. On the other hand, if we can get some good players in trade, do it up. Actually, I'm getting kind of tired of hearing about it every other month. Sick of the drama. If you want to go pack your shit Tony.

Trading Tony Gonzalez is a "turrible" idea on so many levels I don't even know where to begin. I predict that if this goes down, so will this team, for many years to come.

As others have said, lots of players "deserved" a Superbowl ring. I would add Warren Moon to the list of those already mentioned. What's more, Tony G has been part of a team that's was well positioned for many years to make a championship - which is more than a lot of great players can say - so saying he deserves "his shot" elsewhere is complete nonsense. The Chiefs have given him "his shot."

In the process, he has been paid very well. There is nothing that is owed to him other than maybe honest, straigtforward talk from the management and coaches.

Moving Gonzalez can only mean one thing - that management and coaching simply do not expect this team to be "in contention" before Tony retires. What "Average Joe Fan" will plainly get from that message is that 1) the Chiefs will be no good for the next two years, 2) the only player on this team worth coming to see will no longer be around, and 3) oh, excuse the mess and inconvenience while we renovate. Has anyone noticed that season ticket sales are way down this year? Yeah, let's get rid of Tony Gonzalez and see what does to ticket sales.

The new era marketing strategy is what? Come see a non-competing team, with no star talent, while we renovate, and don't worry about your job or the economy! Yeah, I like that a lot!!

Now as a GM, maybe trading Tony does make a lot of sense. My problem is that we lose someone who caught, what, over 90 catches the last couple of years on average. So as a GM, who picks that up? Does that mean you take Crabtree instead of Curry, Orakpo or E. Brown? Our #3 needs to be a guaranteed defensive stud. That is what we need. Not another star QB like or even (if) better than Bowe.

Baldy,

I think you are dead wrong and dead right at the same time. How? Let me explain. Tony deserves a SB ring, you are correct. Dan Marino deserved one as well and look what happened to him and as previously mentioned, Jim Kelly. As a fan I would rather have Tony here to help the new "franchise quarterback", then trying to get a SB with a team that, and let me make this perfectly clear, WAS ABSOLUTELY LUCKY TO GET TO THE PLAYOFFS WITH A ROOKIE QB!!! They will not be as good next year. It is likely that Matt Ryan will have the prototypical sophomore jinx.

vbchief and daniel your f!@#$ng crazy if you think we are making a super bowl run. You really think we should hold on to him just b/c he is our best offensive weapon. How exactly did that work out with LJ. We held onto him until he had no trade value and what do we have. Seriously you selfish pricks think that having him for a year or two changes anything. I'd rather get a 2nd and Mack ,Unger, or another tackle and solidify our O line for potentially 10 years then let Tony retire and get nothing in return. Yes he is our best weapon but look at our future and what we could get in return. I dont buy your bullshit that we should keep him just so he can retire in two years.

this is bullshit !!@ this is bullshit!!! this is bullshit!! Tony Gonzalez if you even read this site I have a gut ass feeling that you guys will be in the playoffs this upcoming year and my gut feelings are PRETTY DAMN GOOD!! Do not leave , you will regret it.

I have said this time and time again, we were 2-14. There is not one person on our roster that is tradeproof. I would not want to trade Flowers,Albert and would need a hell of a deal to move Bowe. Everyone else is open game on that turd of a team we had last year.
Sending Tony and Hali to Atlanta for their #24 would be a great deal for the Chiefs.

Wtf should we trade tony G were going off and signing old ass linebackers cause pioli is trying to win now to regain the fanbase and money so getting rid of your best offensive player when you just aquired a QB is just stupid. What player in the late second round is going to help matt cassel and this team as much as Tony G will. Beside ATL has as much of a chance in winning a superbowl as the Chiefs. I think we got a better chance to win

f#@$ all of that bull sh@!. Tony G has been one of the best players for the chiefs in a long time Besides D.T. And everybody says " Oh he deserves a superbowl ring" And I say yes he does !!! But guess what? Does anyone remember Jim Kelley? He played his whole career with the Buffalo Bills and went to four consecutive Superbowls and has not won any of them, but he retired a Buffalo Bill. SWTF!!(tony please stay) Does any body remember Zach Tjhomas and ...... What's his face from the Dolphins? they wanted to be traded last year and what did that get them?

I have to agree with baldy all the way. Under Haley's system, it does not utilize TE's in a way our Pro Bowling big guy would deserve. Tony is and forever will be a Chief, and whether he goes or stays I'll always be a fan of his.

Having said that, I think he deserves a shot at the glory (which we ALL know he wants a crack at, and why not? He's earned it). If we can get a 2nd rounder for him that would be a heck of a deal and set us up with maybe another OL, like Unger or Mack if they're still around, or Kruger if he's still around. That'd be an awesome trade, one I could live with for sure.

Whether he goes to Atlanta, or, don't rule out New England, I hope he does well and gets his shot at the trophy. I'll miss him, and Arrowhead won't be the same without hearing his name anymore. But again, I think he's earned it. And I think with our youth, and our new system with Haley, this is probably the best solution.

Sorry that was "as much as I want to see him retire a Chief". Woops.

OK so I know this is not going to be popular but I think we should trade him and I will list my reasons why. First of all let me say that I love Tony G. Next to D. Thomas he is by far my favorite Chiefs player of all time. (I'm 28 so its a generational thing) He has been great for the Chiefs and this community so this is nothing personal.

1. Age- nothing to do with his talent or how much he has left in the tank but he is getting up there and personally I think if we can get a second rounder for him we should. Its a selfish pure GM move but I think its the right one.

2. As much as I want to see him retire I'm not selfish enough to watch want him go his entire career without a ring. I think he deserves a shot at one and I think we can all agree that by the time we get there, cross your fingers, he will probably be well past his prime if not retired.

Thats pretty much it. I dont think this can be comparable to the J. Allen fiasco due to the age and amount of time we have left with him vs. trade value.

I'm sorry to say it, and I hate to do so, but strike while the iron is hot. See Larry Johnson circa 06.

If you can get a second for Tony you take the deal in a heartbeat.
