AADQ: Best Receiver In The 2009 NFL Draft Class?

by AADQ

As you all know, I think Michael Crabtree is far and away the best receiver in this draft class. But not everyone agrees with me. My old man, Mizzou homer that he is, thinks Jeremy Maclin will be better. Brian over at Phin Phanatic likes Kenny Britt. I know Double D loves him some Darrius Heyward-Bey. Recently, I’ve even read some comments throwing names like Hakeem Nicks and Percy Harvin into the convo. So, we’ll let you be “the decider”…

Addicts, who’s the best receiver in the 2009 NFL Draft class?

look i love crabtree, but i feel that if we draft him at 3 were taking him too high. i think we would be better off trading down getting say a mid first and also a second. in the middle first i dont have an idea who wed take but i think in the second we take heyward-bey. im telling you right now he will be amazing. hes projected early second round and theres no way we take him with 3 overall, but i feel hes the best value for his draft position

Eh, RTFQ, sorry I keep looking through Chiefs glasses. Best WR in draft. Now: Crabtree. 5 years from now, provided he doesn't go to Oakland: Maclin.

Best receiver value is either of two guys - Mike Wallace Ole Miss and Louis Murphy Florida.

signed SEC Homer

Kerry Meier.

just for the sake of countering all this mizzou backing.

The best Wr of this draft class is Crabtree. Someone said something earlier about cris carter having the same injury and crabtree reminds me alot of him. And "The Catch" against Tex while fighting through a tackle and walking into the endzone to win the game cemented the deal

I agree that we need to go offense with #3, but I think it needs to be a lineman. Albert is getting RT money so let him play it. We need to protect the investment which is Cassell.

If we trade out and look for a WR I like Nicks and Bey who can really stretch the field.

Crabtree is miles ahead of the others in my opinion. Even if we threw in previous draft years i would probably put him at the top in most of them

Nope. Not what I was trying to say at all. Just saying I think Crabtree would be a good pick for us.

If not Crabtree I'm also fully in favor of Aaron Curry, Eugene Monroe, or Jason Smith (preferably Monroe). And completely opposed to Brian Orakpo.

So, BBQ regarding your first comment. You felt bad last year about the linebackers, and you were right, therefore we must draft a WR this time out? What has changed about the LBs that makes you feel good about 'em? Getting rid of Pat Thomas?

Back on topic -- Maclin has been great on special teams, we could use us some of that for sure. Also agree that Harvin could be had for a lower price, provided we find ourselves a second round pick or two.

I'm pretty much completely with you, TexasChief. Beef up the offense now while there are opportunities to do so and see what we're made of, see what we're working with on defense, and address that part heavily next year.

As far as going defense next year... I know this is premature, but I already know what 1st rounder I want. Terrence Cody, NT, Alabama. Dude's a BEAST.

Maclin is a Raider waiting to happen. Great speed and mediocre ball skills. Percy Harvin is a better choice than Maclin if you want a crazy gifted athlete. Crabtree is going to be the best, followed by Nicks. He was the best player on the field in nearly every game he was a part of. He is a Bowesque player that can go up and get a jump ball with anyone.

I know the old adage that “Defense Wins Championships” but the last time we were an all offense team in 2003 we won the division with a 13-3 record and won 10 games straight, and I also remember that we lost the first game in the playoffs as I was there at Arrowhead witnessing the close defeat by the Colts. But how much fun was that to go to a Chiefs game where we averaged 31 points a game and cry as he may Dick would hoot and holler on the side line? I for one was a fan of those days!

I say we draft Crabtree with our 1st pick and score an O Lineman in the 3rd round of the draft. And I know some of you may hate this decision but keep LJ on a tight leash and see if we can get anywhere close to that 4 yards a run avg while using him for everything he is worth. We quit talking about Tony G and Waters leaving and I think our Offense just jumped in the top 7 in the league. With our new Head Coach calling the plays for Cassel and an arsenal like that to throw to we just won the division with a mediocre at best Defense.

Then we wait till next year and address the Defense through free agency and the draft. At least it would be fun to see our Chiefs put up some points again!

And Yes I do think Crabtree is by far the best WR in this year's draft.

I believe Michael Crabtree is the best wide receiver in the draft and who the Chiefs should select with the 3rd pick. Jeremy Maclin is an incredible athlete but I see him having an injury plagued career so he'll be a perfect fit with the Raiders.

Crabtree by far but I really like that guy from North Carolina...

Note: by "safer" picks I actually meant the picks that will address our more immediate needs. I do indeed believe that Michael Crabtree is a very safe pick.

Although in all actuality, I'm not entirely comfortable with our receiver situation as it stands now. Dwayne Bowe is talented, but how much is he gonna be able to do if and when Tony Gonzalez leaves? He will then be the main threat through the air, and I'm not convinced he can handle that role without help. Mark Bradley is good for versatility and athleticism, but past that I really don't know what we have going for us.

Last year at this time I had a bad feeling about our linebackers, and look what happened there.. that's why I like Crabtree. Plus he seems like the perfect pick for the style of team it looks like we're gonna have.

K sorry I'm done.

Michael Crabtree is head and shoulders above the rest as far as I'm concerned. He seems to me to be the only one with T.O./Ocho Cinco/Larry Fitzgerald/Randy Moss potential. If he is developed properly, I believe 100% that he will be the next great one. Todd Haley could be the coach with a high enough pick that could do just that... which is why I'm secretly rooting for us to select Crabtree even though I know Curry, Monroe, or Smith would be the safer picks.

The only other receiver I like in the first round is Percy Harvin. He's a game changer along the lines of Steve Smith or Desean Jackson. There are Injury concerns, as he is a bold reeiver with a very small frame.
