Chiefs All But Guaranteed To Cut Larry Johnson

I was out all day at the dentist, which was not very fun let me tell you. Well, one person who had an even worse day than mine was Larry Johnson. Getting $3.5 million in guaranteed salary nixed is certainly worse than getting some fillings fixed.

Now, I’ve had the time to sit down and read almost everything that’s been written about this situation. In my opinion, you can’t compare L.J.to Clinton Portis or Marshall Faulk or even Willis McGahee. I think this is more like Jamal Anderson meets Ricky Williams. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it’s my guesstimation that L.J. has no value on the trade market. I expect the Chiefs to eventually have to cut Larry, I really do.

I’ll be back with a vlog here soon, but for now…

Addicts, sound off on the Chiefs winning their Larry Johnson grievance case today…

On my way to work the NFL radio network was talking about how Larry now want to stay in KC an prove him self. I think renogationing his contract to something with alot of incentives would help "prove himself".

I hope the Chiefs hold onto him. LJ still has good football left in him, I think. Give him a solid line (which we are apparently trying to do with the addition of Goff) and he can be an animal. LJ's bread and butter is not outrunning linebackers, it's hitting the hole his line provides for him and making the secondary his bitch.

he is a PUNK,,, get rid of him!!!

Right. Ok, so this is off topic, but may be interesting to some. The mock database I visit is on hailredskins.com. It has a boat load of mock drafts and is usually updated at least once a week. Over there, of the 30 mock drafts that have been updated since the 4th, 27 have us taking Curry, 2 for Orakpo, and one says Raji. This isn't really surprising, but it gives you an idea of where the rest of the world feels we should go with this pick. I happen to agree with them.

Thats a good point Ikeaced. I think you're right. If he stays on the team, he earns the cash unless he restructures. Thats NEVER happening, especially at this point. I'm sure Pioli is gauging his value (if any) on the phone right now. He's not stupid-we're not cutting him until all trade options are exhausted. The fact that a team can sign him to a one year deal after being traded helps his value some, but not much...

Once Will Shields was replaced with John Welbourn and Willie Roaf was replaced with Jordan Black, and Al Saunders was replaced with the utterly incompetent and inept Mike Solari, his production took a nose dive. If we can get some more good young O lineman in here, I think a platoon of Kolby, Charles, and a young drafted or FA RB would be more than sufficient. It all starts up front, right guys?

I may be dead wrong here--figuring out salary cap issues is like figuring out how Lyle Lovett once landed Julia Roberts--it just can't be done.

But see if I am reading this right: If the Chiefs cut LJ they do not have to pay him a pile of money. HOWEVER, if they keep him, he stays on his current contract unless he is willing to renegotiate. So, they can cut him on the cheap or keep him and pay him a boatload?

I just don't see them paying this guy tons of money. Is he better than K. Smith or J. Charles?probably. Is he worth a top 5 RB salary--not on your life. Lyle Lovett was more worthy of Julia Roberts.

I also agree with Daniel. As much as I despise the guy we are not going to get anything better to fill in. Make him earn his salary and wear the tread off of him for the next 2 years.

If he has a good year then trade him next off season.

Yes...I agree with daniel that if we cut him he will be successful with another team, and maybe a division rival.

On one hand I would support it to get the right 53 in place but I would rather run him into the ground...

I say trade him for what ever we can get, I don't care if it's a seasons supply of big thick juicy steaks for the TEAM,, he will never give 100% in KC nor will he ever be a TEAM player,,, teams win football games not running overpaid RB's..............

LJ was only good behind a good o-line. If we get that line fixed up, finding his replacement will not be very hard at all. It's about time that vagina fart blew out of town.

I may be totally wrong but I do not think the Chiefs will cut him unless he has more poor public behavior. The Chiefs can use him this year and next and he will have to earn his salary. The front office made a good business decision in making the determination that he breached his contract.

My personal feelings are that we are probably better without him but I think he will stay for now.

I don't think to cut him is the best decision and have a division rival sing him we should make him take a pay cut and shut up because we still need him. We don't have a replacement yet we have two backups that wont get it done teams will not respect our running game with Kolby and Jamaal. BTW I would wear neon and I like LJ's fashion sense (not his attitude though)

I think there's an outside chance we could get a low-round selection for LJ (maybe with some kind of performance scaling), but it'll probably come down to just cutting him.

Larry Johnson is a spoiled rich kid wannabe thug. The only thing worse than a wannabe thug is a wannabe Kanye West. Any dude who wears neon and "fronts" on women is the epitome of douchebag and should be run out of this town. He had his chance to show contrition and be embraced by the only town that would take hime back. But instead as spoiled rich kids do he took the road above it all and I hope he spends the rest of his money and years pulling a Maurice Clarrett and wish him nothing but luck in his spiral to inobscurity and oblivion.

The sooner the better when it comes to cutting LJ in my opinion. The guy that used to love punishing tacklers, now loves running into the line and falling down, he is a malcontent, and last, but not least. LJ is a bad person. Brandishing a gun to a woman, shoving a woman, threatening to kill a woman's boyfriend and then having her brought back into a club so he can spit on her is dispicable. Send him to the Raiders. If character matters to Haley and Pioli, LJ should be as good as gone.
