AADQ: The Future of Brodie Croyle

by AADQ

What’s going to happen to Brodie Croyle? I think he will ask to be released or traded after it becomes clear he is stuck behind Matt Cassel and Tyler Thigpen, probably next offseason. Personally, I think he’s a career clipboard holder, but that’s just me. He’s way too frail to be counted on as a starter, and that’s even if you think he has the talent. I don’t. I just haven’t seen it.

Addicts, what will become of Brodie Croyle?

Extrametal I'm saying doubt if we could get a first round for Thigpen. I was referring to MBlasters post. Sorry for the confusion.

sandya

as far as thig and cassel go he to me anyways isnt that impressive, considering the talent each team and player had to work with last year...

as for people and their vision of croyle

him and thig are different players... thig can roll out and move much better...
I think he is better suited than cassel is to the chiefs talent right now... as we need his mobility
since the chiefs, wont grab o-linemen.

redbeard,

I'll bite. Why don't I want to know why you don't want an oline guy this year?

Garcia to the Raiders

Was a first or second mentioned somewhere? Whaa? Considering we drafted him in the third round and his value hasn't exactly appreciated...

He can't play. Doesn't matter how good of an arm he has. He can't take it. Get rid of him. I very seriously doubt we could get a 1st or 2nd for him.

I concur that Croyle shouldn't be on the team. I'd much rather have kept Quinn Gray for the 3rd QB spot.

Croyle shouldn't even be on the team..Yes he has a great arm, who cares..He can't stay healthy..And he was never even impressive in the games..

Thigpen blew Croyle away..And redbeard please don't even for a second make it sound like your promoting an open qb competition between croyle-thigpen-cassell..Just don't even goo there..Thigpen deserves to be in the mix because our offense went from scoring 7 points a game to 23..Brodie never even scored 20 points as a starter..

I think he will stay once he is healthy again - I think I read he is on schedule to return in July. He has the same arm strengh as Cutler - per pre draft reports from 2006. If he gets protected, we will be glad to have him.

I'm not saying he will be the starter again but he can play.

LJ lost his grievance. Hopefully, this means he is gone.

what nobody wants to know why I dont want a o-line guy this year

Croyle does have good velocity on his ball but the guy is just either a wimp or has the worse luck. If he coulda fought through some of those injuries he may have won favor with some people but he didnt and know he is a career backup

I agree master BLASTER...
to me all three of the QBs we have are similar in stats...

And why everyone os so high on Cassel and making him the next Manning brother so quickly,is beyond me...we cant compare apples and oranges as far as the teams they have played with in the past.

you guys are way to hard on him...lol

we all need to remember we have a no cap limit year coming up...

what this means is that Denver will go after star key possition players... with both 1st rounders, if they dont trade up.

Kansas City quite possably could grab another QB, (actually why not if this QB comming out is as good as he is supposed to be, it cant hurt , and without a long term deal with Cassel in place,Picking up a Great QB in the draft would be worth it) but then by drafting another they return to a we dont know what we are doing age...lol

most likely they keep what they have now and stand pat at QB

Man you guys are harsh.

I remember when Croyle was being groomed last year as our starting QB. I was always on the fence about it, and pretty much knew he wasn't a franchise QB. However, I remeber his play in the 07 campaign, and made the statement "Croyle has proven himself as a 2nd string QB".

I believed the same going into the 08' season. In 08', he was being polished from the start as the starting QB. It showed in the games before he got hurt. His passes were clean and not hurried. He looked comfortable in the pocket. He only played 2 games before injury, but in those two games he had an 81.2 QB rating. The previous year, when I had him qualified as a good 2nd stringer, his QB rating was 69.9 after 9 games.

I still think BC is a good 2nd stringer if he can keep from geting pounded on. Why is this even important you ask? Well, there are a lot of teams desperate for QB's right now. Lions will probably take Stafford and Sanchez is going to go quick. Probably to the 49'ers. After that, there are a few teams that might start thinking Pigpen might be their answer. If, by some miracle, we could get a 1st or more likely a 2nd for Pigpen, it might not be outside of the relm of possibility that Croyle ascends to the 2nd spot again.

Chew on that

world needs ditch diggers too.

Amen, Whir. I think the artillery references are getting passed around a bit too frequently. They're like 'extreme' -- rapidly becoming meaningless.

I'd be happy with Croyle holding the clipboard for league minimum. Seemed like a pretty sharp kid -- but tough to get any gameday savvy when you're always hurt.

Other historical options... he could go back to Alabama, run a memorabilia store like Jason White is at OU. Ron Powlus is coaching ND quarterbacks on how to put up great stats while still being losers. Or worst case, based upon his injury history, he could coach for awhile and then resign after a painkiller scandal like Ryan Leaf.

I keep hearing about his cannon arm, yet I've never seen it on display.

Send him to ESPN to get coffee for Herm forever...like KCDan said

The guy has a cannon for an arm. However, he hasn't been able to stay healthy. What harm would it do to have him on the squad? I'd rather have a guy like Croyle than a washed up quarterback like Huard.

I don't think he has more than this coming year left on his contract anyway. Why wouldn't they just let him go his own way after his contract expires anyway.....

Why would we get rid of croyle as a 3rd qb? Adam, your rants have gotten worse and worse lately. He is cheap and who cares if he is fragile. He is on the 3rd team depth chart!

The answer depends on if we draft a QB with promise. If we do, Brodie could get cut. If we don't, he gets a year to impress the new coaching staff.

Yep career 3rd stringer from here on out

I think Herm will recruit him to work for ESPN
