AADQ: Manic Monday?

Personally, I think the drama is going to come later in the week, but a lot of people are projecting that we will have some answers regarding the Chiefs’ disgruntled vets — Brian Waters, Larry Johnson and Tony Gonzalez — when voluntary workouts kick off tomorrow. I guess we’ll have to wait and find out. Until then…

Addicts, what do you think will go down tomorrow, if anything?

I saw Tony Gonzales today leaving his Condo on the plaza. I sure hope that’s not a bad sign that he is in town, not at his home in Cali.

I’ve been a long time reader and subscriber to AA, yet I’ve never once left a comment. Seconds after my first one I realized that…duh…he’s in town for the workouts. Oh well, maybe next time I can say something worth reading. haha.

i got a feeling new orleans is going to be a player fro LJ and Dorsey. I see us getting there 1st 3rd and 6th round pick for the 2

Really?? LJ to NO? With Reggie Bush? Seems like they already have their guy. Although I do remember reading where their QB was frothing at the mouth to get LT…so you may have something there. I dont care as long as he isnt here and we get someone in FA or the draft that can be the GUY cause we dont have a featured back once LJ is gone.

  5. 5. 2383 Says:

I don’t think the Saints would want to give that much up for Dorsey when they have Ellis. That would also be a butt load of money tied up on DT’s.

  6. 6. 2383 Says:

I’m just glad LJ is out, I don’t even care if we get anything for him. Makes you wonder why we didn’t try to sign Ward or someone like that in FA.

  7. 7. kevinlavalle Says:

First i would like to say we need to give Dorsey a break. He had the same type of numbers last year that Sapp had his rookie year. Not only that we are thin at DT. When it come to LJ we have no replacement for him there is no running back that we could pick up in the 3rd round that is a feature back. There are no real good backs in free agency the only way would be to get a 2nd round pick for Larry (doubtful). So I believe the chiefs will Try to meet Larry in the middle unless someone offers us a second then good riddance.

History has shown that you can pick up running backs throughout the draft. The Chiefs have Charles to be a change of pace back, they can find someone to carry the ball 15 times a game.

The Chiefs need to cut him and then the good citizens of KC need to send his next team a plethora of diapers for him and pepper spray for the women of the town he ends up in.

If Dorsey put on 15 more pounds, which is possible, would we even have this discussion about his relevance in our new Defense? Don’t you think the Chiefs know what they are doing with Dorsey? I do. They will incorporate his talent. No need to worry.

dbk301, running backs are hard to come by.

Only recently does it seem that running backs are succeeding right out of the draft. I beilive that this is a result of better offenses and playcalling than the backs themselves. However, there are still flops or less than stellar backs being drafted in the first rounds, (Laurence Maroney was picked by Pioli, he is not doing so well).

I remember the days when Marty was the coach and then Gunther? Until Priest we couldn’t find a running back to save our lives. So history has not always shown that good running backs are easy to come by (if I understand your position)). I say do not release Larry. I say keep him and run him into the ground. He runs mad and will do well with the ball in his hands.

I hope your right about Dorsey Jeremy. I have no earthly idea what to do about LJ. Thats why I\m not a GM I guess. Tony has lost my respect Im afraid. Not angry at him just bored.

  11. 11. dbk301 Says:

    Jeremy,

Your comment that only recently running backs are succeeding out of that draft as a reason to not get rid of Larry doesn’t seem valid to me. Not trying to be a smartasss, but I don’t care what was happening in the league 10-15 years ago. In the NFL today you can find a running back without having to give up a top pick for him. The Chiefs should look at the model of today when making their decision on LJ and not worry about the issues Marty had 10-15 years ago.

  12. 12. Chiefs447 Says:

My best guess is LJ will not be here, but when or how he goes is the question. I would hate to just release him because then he could go anywhere and we receive nothing. A 6th round pick is better than nothing.

It’s plain and simple: LJ doesn’t want to be here, and Pioli/Haley doesn’t want players who don’t want to be here. I don’t think there is any convincing LJ to be happy, because the only way he will be happy is with 20-30 carries a game. Not gonna happen in Todd Haley’s offense. Period.

Also, I wouldn’t be too worried about picking up a “feature” back. A two back system is the way of the NFL right now. We can find someone good enough to go with Charles.

On a side note, Haley’s offense concerns me. I didn’t think we ran the ball enough when Thiggy took over last year, causing us to drop a few ball games because we couldn’t control the clock.

  13. 13. Randy5k Says:

Larry inst reliable, he is old, he doesnt have the right attitude for KC. His presence in 2009 will only breed more problems.

  14. 14. Chiefs447 Says:

And one more thing, LJ will find a team to run for in ‘09, and he’s going to prove that he’s still one of the best in the league. If we we’re going to be more of a running team, I’d take him in a heart beat, but in this case, I think he’d be a waste for the Chiefs.

  15. 15. dbk301 Says:

LJ isn’t one of the best in the league. Off the top of my head I can think of several I’d rather have than him. AP, Chris Johnson, Brandon Jacobs, Westbrook, Derrick Ward, Steve Slaton, MJD, Ronnie Brown, Marshawn Lynch, Matt Forte, Frank Gore, Stephen Jackson, Michael Turner. I think I’d rather even have McFadden. I think the only reason he didn’t blow up last year was because of health. I’m sure I’m probably forgetting some guys.

  16. 16. Randy5k Says:

Larry does not possess the talent to turn a team around, so his behavioral problems aren’t worth the associated risks.

  17. 17. Chiefs447 Says:

We’re so quick to forget it was just two, count em, TWO seasons ago LJ had back to back 1700 yard seasons and 37 TDs. Don’t question his talent. Effort, maybe, but not his talent. He averaged 4.5 yards a carry this year, but he only ran it 198 freakin times!! This guy is definitely not done, and when he gets his chance to prove that, watch out.

  18. 18. spyke Says:

i say if we get back into the second round, or we get another 3rd round pick somehow, we draft shonn greene. this kid reminds me of LJ without the attitude, and much bigger.

Honestly, if i were picking late first round and and RB was in the top 5 positions on my draft bored, id take him. thats how high i am on him. i cant believe he’s mite te there in the 3rd round

  19. 19. REDwin Says:

I think the Chiefs will keep Larry Johnson. I also think he will run for about 1800 yards while Charles dices for about 600. Matt Cassel has three 1200 yard recievers to throw too with Bowe, Engram, if or when Tony decides to stay…Solid secondary, good linebackers and hopefully some blossoming DT draft picks in some recent years in Turk, Tank, and Glen. Don’t forget about Edwards either at 6′3″ 315 lbs. Our offensive line will jell with Albert, Waters, Rudy, Goff and Sackintosh, Taylor, Pace?, high draftpick? someone may even step up from obscurity,… And to top it off we have the best punter in the league to anchor our ST with Beisel a great ST player, a decent kick return game and good Kicker in Barth. 12-4
