Trade Our Cassel For A "Blue" Jay? No Way

Won’t be seeing much more of this…hopefully!

The big news in the AFC West today is that Denver Broncos’ star quarterback Jay Cutler has demanded a trade. The Cutler-Josh McDaniels feud began back when McD allegedly tried to trade for Matt Cassel, only to be beaten to the punch by Scott Pioli, his old boss, and the Chiefs. Not only did the move land the Chiefs their quarterback of the future, but it caused their biggest rival to potentially lose theirs as well. Talk about a double whammy for the Donks.

Now, I’m reading suggestions from Chiefs fans that we should trade Cassel for Cutler. My response: No. Way. In. Hell. In fact, I wouldn’t trade Cassel and Dwayne Bowe for Brandon Marshall and Cutler if they threw in a second-rounder. Wouldn’t even take the call; I’d slam down the phone and ask the phone company to block their number.

Cutler has diabetes, can be a crybaby and is an erratic passer who’s shown the Farvian tendency to throw bonehead INTs. I wouldn’t want him. If you ask me, he’s the single most overrated player in the NFL. Meanwhile, Cassel is a class act who doesn’t even gripe when he rides the pine. He’s also probably the freshest 26-year-old signal caller ever to be brought in as a potential NFL franchise QB. Most importantly, last year he threw five less picks than Cutler despite being sacked more than twice as much and it being his first year as a starter.

I’m perfectly happy with Cassel. Besides, why should we help our rival get out of this jam? The McDaniels era is on the verge of imploding before it ever sees a snap. Let’s put our foot on their throat, not offer them a hand up.

As for Brandon “Baby T.O.” Marshall, he’s turning out to be Baby Chris Henry off the field. D-Bowe might be an eccentric personality, maybe even a bit of a diva, but he’s a good kid. Right now, can you say the same about Marshall? It won’t matter if no corner in the league can lock him up if the law does it first.

We do have our own malcontents — Brian Waters and Larry Johnson — but I honestly think we could survive losing both players. I’m not sure the Broncos and the McD era can survive the combo of a Cutler trade and a Marshall suspension. After all, wasn’t McDaniels brought in to help those two become the new Brady-to-Moss connection? It’s looking more like the Plummer-to-Lelie connection these days. That’s why I’m thrilled about our Cassel-Bowe combo. I think we all should be. They might not be quite as dynamic, but they’re much, much more dependable.

P.S. – I just want to add that Cutler is a goofy S.O.B. He makes Elway look like Joe Montana. He’s like a Manning reject or something. Our current quarterback looks the part. I like that.
