UPDATE 5:24 PM CT: Here’s what Scott Pioli just had to say about Crabtree’s injury. From NFL.com:
Chiefs general manager Scott Pioli said the situation was unfortunate for Crabtree, but not devastating.
“You got a bunch of tapes to watch guys on. From our standpoint we evaluate guys on how they play football and not just on how they run,” noted Pioli.
Maybe I should put away my “jump to conclusions” mat? Or maybe Pioli is just playing things close to the chest, trying not to give anything away? Hmmm…
By now you’ve heard the news that Michael Crabtree’s foot injury will require surgery. That means he will not be running at his Pro Day. I just don’t see our Chiefs or any of the other top six teams taking a chance on Crabtree sight unseen. What does that mean? It means that the best receiver, maybe even player, in this draft likely just fell into Al Davis’ lap. GULP! From NFL.com:
Medical testing at the scouting combine here revealed that Texas Tech wide receiver Michael Crabtree, one of the top prospects in this year’s NFL draft, has a slight stress fracture in his left foot that will require surgery to insert a screw, league sources said Saturday morning.
The injury and surgery is expected to sideline Crabtree for at least 10 weeks, jeopardizing his NFL pro day, which now is expected to be canceled, and raising questions about when he will be healthy again. Doctors believe that with the precautions the All-American wide receiver is willing to take, Crabtree will be sufficiently recovered in time for training camp this summer.
After doctors found the slight stress fracture on Friday they conducted more testing on Crabtree, including a bone scan that revealed that the injury happened only recently, possibly during training for the combine. Since finding it, Crabtree has been investigating the best and smartest way to treat the injury.
I’m very, very concerned that Crabtree is going to end up wearing silver and black. JaMarcus Russell’s arm to Michael Crabtree? That’s scary stuff.
Addicts, sound off on Crabtree possibly going to the Raiders…

Adam:
I wouldn’t be so concerned about Crabtree to the Raiders. The player that has been campaigning hard to elevate his stock for the Raider is: Andre Smith. He leaves early, said he wouldn’t workout because he was not in shape. Now, if he could work in a gun possession charge, we could write him down for the Raiders right now.
This may knock Crabtree down quite a lot. The other side of this to look at is what it might do improve the stock of guys like Maclin, Harvey, Nicks, Heyward-Bey, and so forth.
Crabtree’s stock is still rather high. It’s a common injury with a quick recovery time in the NFL. Not a big deal. Crabtree is still rated as the #1 reciever in the class. But I definately think that Curry is locked up at 3. Sucks, cause I was hoping for the crab man.
I’m sorry, but there’s absolutely nothing scary about the Raiders, no matter who they have.
I still don’t think he falls past Seattle, he is way too talented and Seattle needs way too much help. That would be disappointing if he ended up a raider i think i would throw a brick at my tv
well, Russell to Maclin is scary either way. So is Colquitt, or Barth to Maclin.
I know that most of us have had a boner for Crabtree for some time but this pushes him out of the top 3. I think even the top 5. Weve all seen what he can do but is anyone going to give top 5 money to somebody who did no work outs before the draft (10 weeks out = no combine, no pro day, no work out) and coming off a pretty significant injury for a WR. I wont be surprised to see him go early or slip. He could go anywhere to anyone at this point. Personally I dont think he gets past Davis. Regardless of their production theres no way Davis can pass up having Russell, McFaggen and Crabtree on the same team. That would look pretty sick on Madden ‘10 though.
lol, but they have no offensive line.
