Draft Thoughts…

by Chiefs

Sitting in LAX reading over comments. Here are a couple knee-jerk reactions I had…

First off, Al Davis is not going to trade up with us. Not gonna happen, folks. Might as well flush that pipe dream down the crapper right now.

Next, the chances of us trading down successfully are extremely slim.

Kind of in a rush, so I couldn’t find who it was, but someone had an excellent point about a potential trade with Philadelphia. My dad and I actually had the same thought last night. I can actually see them moving their two firsts to us for the No. 3 overall pick and Larry Johnson. More picks would be involved, but that would be the core of the deal. Philly desperately needs a No. 1 WR in order to take the next step, and Michael Crabtree would be that guy the second he donned the green. Meanwhile, I could see us getting a defensive end, linebacker and receiver (Darius Heyward-Bay? I’m on board with you on that kid, Double D) with our two firsts and early second. Not likely to happen, but it makes sense for both teams. Philly could use a power back like L.J. as well, and they have the locker room to keep him under control. Plus, he went to Penn State so I assume he would be happy there. He’d be close to Jay-Z and NYC, too.

Otherwise, we better hope that someone really wants Mark Sanchez (I think the Lions are going to draft Matt Stafford).

Another thing I want to say is please, please, please stop comparing Aaron Curry to Derrick Thomas. Curry had 9.5 sacks in four years at Wake. Call him Derrick Brooks, but please don’t call him Derrick Thomas. They are nothing at all alike.

As far as my recent Crabtree rants are concerned, hey, this is our site, but it is also kind of my site. Like all other Chiefs fans, I I have an agenda and want to see it pursued. I’m also the kind of person that thinks he can get a Klansman to vote for Obama. Sling water to a whale. Sell fire in hell. Tom Cruise to chill. But…obviously there is no convincing some of you, and that’s fine. Time will prove me right on this one, just like it did on Brodie Croyle, Herm Edwards and Matt Ryan. Hey, I’m wrong some of the time and am typically the first to admit it.  But I’ve been right a lot more than I’ve been wrong about the Chiefs. Anyway, I will give you all a momentary Crabtree ceasefire until we get into the combine. You guys know how I feel, and I can see that those of you who can be swayed have been for the most part.

That’s it for now…

After watching D-Mo for the last few years... he would be great for the Chiefs, a kick returner with the upside to be a change-of-pace back. He will be a steal for whoever gets him late.

how about a D.M. ? Devin Moore out of Wyoming could be had in a later round and has some speed.

The CHIEFS need to find a D.H in the draft this year, and no I don't mean a designated hitter! With the kick return game the way it was last year we need to find the new Desmond Howard , Devin Hester ,and of course Dante Hall. Maybe there's some unknown talent out there who is a return god with the initials D.H.

All this talk of draft scenarios is interesting, but what about free agency. There is cap room to address some of the big need. Proven play and leader for a young team would be great!

21st pick might put us in the range of Laurinaitis which I would be extremely excited about and the 28th pick could land us either RT Eben Britton or WR Heyward-Bey. If something like that happens, I shoot skeet like Chuck Norris.

I don't believe a trade down is very likely either but, you know, if anybody has the chops to get it done, wouldn't that be Pioli? That at least gives me a slight sense of hope and the Philly scenario is, if nothing else, intriguing.

Not forgetting anybody, Z. This is still the house you built -- I just do my act here. This is still a site for all us Addicts.

Just saying that since I do drop 500-1,000 posts a year, I think it's OK for me to get up on the old soapbox once in a while. Maybe? :)

that was exactly why I brought the idea of Philly up. The Eagles are in desperate need of a big back and outside of C. Wells I dont see alot of options for them, and even he has injury concerns so.... If they bite on that wow. Unlikely but wow.

"but it is also kind of my site."

Whoa big bro, I think your forgetting someone :)

Adam, Philly trade makes sense only if McNabb stays. I am from Pa. and believe me he is not liked there. Philly fans are the worst. Remember he was booed on draft day. Rumor has it that he is on his way out.

I like the idea of doing business with Philly....they are on the bubble like that...Just a few players away.

I am not trying to argue with you Adam whether or not we SHOULD take Crabtree....just that we won't... : )

I wasnt saying it was gonna be Oakland necessarily, just that it is not out of the question for it to happen. Teams have needs and other teams have crazy owners. I still think my scenario no matter who the trade partner be would work out best because it would pretty much take care of the whole D problem. If it does happen to be with Philly that works out best because we can go both Offense and Defense in the first round.
